Not adding Bashlor would be beyond nuts at this point. Monster K rate with the velocity to back it up. Hard to see the argument for not protecting him when you ARE protecting Callahan, Bautista etc. It's not like he's a smoke and mirrors type.

Is Bautista rule 5 eligible?

They are going to have decisions to make. If Callahan and/Rhame don't prove MLB ready that would mean

Bautista, Callahan, Rhame, Bashlor, Uceta all on the 40 man and yet not ready to help the big club. That's a whole lot of room on the 40 man for relievers not helping the big club. Throw in Molina, Nido and maybe Flexen (in terms of being ready, not suggesting he's being removed) and then presumably Guillorme that's a pretty high % of "not helping the big club" on the 40 man roster. That doesn't even include McGowan. I'm assuming Pill/Becerra will be removed.

I see your point although I think at least one of Rhame/Callahan will be in the opening day bullpen.

Kind of amusing that the conversation has changed to the Mets have too many RPs... iow, I don't think this is a real problem.

Yes. Callahan, Bashlor, Uceta, Bautista, McGowan (on the 40 right now), and Rhame. Also Guillorme, Church (stinks), Carpio (no way), Ali Sanchez (no way), McNeil (might be a sneaky grab by someone), Blackham.

Back to the game last night as this thread really got off the rails I see, but would it have killed Terry to give Ramos a 2nd inning considering it was 4 days in between appearances? Goeddel is just plain awful

This is really bad MMQB'ing. Ramos is basically the only RHRP in that bullpen with a guaranteed 2018 job (Sewald probably close). If TC used him for multi-inning outings in these meaningless games, everyone would be screaming about the abuse.

It wouldn't have been MMQB'ing if I posted last night. :P But seriously how would it be abuse if Terry threw Ramos one more inning? He hadn't pitched in four days!

Too many RP's? It's called too many RP not on the big league roster but also on the 40 man. Strange combining the two issues. How often do you see a team with 5/40 minor league relievers? + Guillorme (almost certainly not on the big league roster), Molina, Nido. That's 8/40 spots taken by non-big leaguers + Becerra and Pill (though I assume both are removed) + Matt Reynolds. I'm not even including McGowan.

With Blackham dialing it up to 97 and posting an eye-popping K rate, he could be plucked by a San Diego-type team.

Skyler Kanfer really likes Blackham. 94-95 with "plenty of sink", CU that "could be solid". Also sprinkles in a 4 seamer. I wanted him bumped to A+ but maybe the Mets are hoping to hide him in Columbia.

Why is Guillorme a consideration to be protected?

He's a top 20 prospect in the system with a skill set that = MLB ready. MMO ranked him the #13 prospect in the system 2 weeks ago (http://metsmerizedonline.com/2017/08/me ... ects.html/)

Milb.com has him at #13 as well

http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=nym

"Guillorme has the fastest hands in the system, the kind of defensive master who is fun to watch take ground balls. Amed Rosario might have smoother actions, but Guillorme has more quickness in terms of his hands, feet and release, with an above-average arm to boot. Guillorme does have some hitting skills, showing good knowledge of the strike zone and an ability to make consistent contact. He's worked hard to add strength, but with just one home run in close to 1,300 Minor League at-bats, there is no power to speak of.

With his defensive ability, few question Guillorme will be a big leaguer. If he can square the ball up a bit more consistently and produce more line drives, he has the chance to be a regular at a premium position, one who could compete for Gold Gloves one day."

Quote:
On the offensive front, Guillorme has reached base safely in 29 straight games for 66-46 Rumble Ponies. During that span Guillorme is slashing .292/.420/.330 with 19 runs scored and 13 RBI.

In 102 Double-A games this year he is hitting .294/.377/.343 with more walks (52) than strikeouts (47) and has tied a career high with 16 doubles. In 40 games this year in the leadoff spot he’s posted a .398 on-base percentage.

Guillorme has also shown great defensive versatility with 45 games at shortstop, 61 at second and even two games at third this year.

It shouldn’t be long before we see Guillorme in Triple-A for Las Vegas and he has to be added to the 40-man roster this offseason to prospect him from the Rule 5 Draft.

If they want to clog up the 40 with more players who don't have ML projections, I guess he'd be one to add. They did the same thing last year with Becerra, Molina and Nido, none of whom appear to be on a ML track at this time, or to the point that needed protection now.

What is a ML projection for Guillorme?? 250/290/280? Come on. This is going to make us yearn for the bat of Ruben Tejada. Adding Guillorme would be laughably dumb IMO. I would add Jeff McNeil before I add Guillorme.
