Mets1 dropped game 1 of a DH. They lead 1-0 in game 2.

GCL Mets have fallen behind 2-0. Box score originally showed Jose Moreno as the starter but is now showing Eric Villanueva having started with Moreno getting the final out of the 1st.

I'm guessing they would prefer "hiding" Oswalt vs. calling him up but I'd much prefer seeing him vs. anymore Milone!

Putting him on the 40 and having to DFA to create space...not putting him on for the rest of the year "hides him".

I think he should be brought up for the remainder of the year.

Milone tells us nothing...

Like Blackham the thought process might to be feigning disinterest in the player. I really doubt they want to add Oswalt to the 40 man if they don't have to.

I know there will be weeks of tedious discussion about players to protect, but it can (and should) prob be something that can be decided in minutes. Is there a comprehensive list of who is rule 5 eligible?

I did a quick look and came up with:

Roster currently at 39 (when the 3 60 day DLs get added back).

Players to remove: Milone, Pill, ACab (option declined or traded), Reyes (FA), Bradford or McGowan (if not both). That takes it down to 34.

Players to add: Callahan, Bashlor, Bautista, Uceta, McNeil, Oswalt

Of course this takes no account of players who may be traded and thus creating more slots on the 40, but assume for this that any deal will be 40 neutral. And if they bring Reyes back for example, then they'll either drop both Bradford and McGowan or could drop Becerra and keep one of the former.

I'm not adding Blackham who is dominating the SALY at 24. If he was doing that in the FSL, I'd have considered it. He's also 5'10". I don't think he sticks out as a poaching candidate but you take the risk. Oswalt is far more important to the 2018 team for SP depth. I don't see anyone else there worthy of discussing.

McGowan is 100% not worth protecting. If he goes to the Padres and gives them 120 solid innings over the next 2 seasons you live with it.

You stopped a bit early.

Montero, Goeddel, Lugo once he has his inevitable TJS, Reynolds, Becerra, Molina.

I doubt both Smoker and Robles are back next year, but thats part of the second wave, when we start selling arms to the Orioles later in the winter.

But also, one of Reyes or AsCab will be back next year, I'm nearly positive.
