Goeddel will never get dropped. He'll have a retirement ceremony in 10 years at Citifield and we'll all look back and marvel at how long of a run he had here while doing absolutely nothing that anyone remembers.

Milone
Pill
Goeddel
Robles
Taijeron
Beccera
Evans

Wouldn't surprise me if Aoki is our Conforto insurance for next year. Reynolds has one more option year I think so it wouldn't surprise me if we keep him in AAA for infield depth and try to trade Cecchini instead. I think one of those guys will be off the roster for sure, though.

That'd leave eight spots open barring adding guys through trades, so we could add

Oswalt
Crismatt
Bashlor
Uceta
Bautista
Guillorme
2 or 3 of FA starter/reliever/infielder (Crismatt is axed if we get all 3)

Initially I thought Aoki would be tendered but then I read his arbitration would be above $6m. No way they do that. Likely they try to re-sign him for less though.

Hard to see them just dumping Robles. I have to believe they can get something for him in a trade. Even if its organizational depth.

I'm in the extreme minority but I also don't see them just dumping Becerra. I could see them giving him another half year before pulling the plug.

Makes little sense to dump Pill too imo. You're going to need arms to fill out the AAA roster.

Doesn't need to take up a 40 spot to fill that role.

Was Becerra moved to 1B because of crowding in OF and no real 1B on roster post-Alonso, or is that another indicator the shoulder is still messed up?

He's a longshot as an outfielder. He's a low-level org player if he's now just a 1B.

More an indicator that he's a non prospect now.

I guess the one benefit of having him on the 40 man is if they DFA him, another team has to add him to theirs in order to get him. We'll be able to assign him to the minors this once after no one does.

So I guess he does make sense as a solid DFA candidate.

AAA should have plenty of arms without Pill. Flexen, Molina, Oswalt, Knapp, Jannis, Delgado, Conlon if he's still a starter, etc. No reason to waste a 40 spot on org depth anyways.

Maybe Robles is non-tendered, maybe he's traded for a lotto ticket, maybe he spontaneously combusts. I just don't see him on the team next year and I can't see him commanding a player worthy of being on the 40 so it's an open spot.

Our OF depth is such crap that I can't see us wasting that spot on Beccera another year. When the inevitable injury happens and we need to add Boyd/Champ/Kaczmarski to the 40, it won't make sense to carry seven OF especially when the seventh is a non-prospect who hasn't performed in A+.

As long as Aoki is a minor league deal - I'd be fine with hi coming back.

Robles . . . I kind of agree with you. He's been good (2 years ago). I think they'll give him a look at least through next spring.

Becerra . . . I somewhat agree with you too, at least, I'm I'm not optimistic on him much anymore, but maybe they give him a look next spring anyway - I'm 50/50.

Pill is where we part company. The mets will drop him from the 40 and no team will take him. I think that's pretty much a given. Needing pitchers in Vegas doesn't mean carrying a pitcher on the 40.

I'm also torn on Reynolds (I'm probably alone on that).

and, I've always loved a good underdog story. Go Mets (2018).

I think half the people who have posted in this thread are more likely to be on the 40 man in 3 months than Wuilmer Becerra.

They're playing him at first base. It's over. He's basically in Aderlin Rodriguez territory.

Drops: McGowan, Milone, Pill, Robles, Reynolds, Aoki, Becerra, Taijeron.

That gets us down to 35.

Adds: Guillorme, Oswalt

Those are the only "locks" for me. Other guys are intriguing, but pretty far away from MLB ready. I probably take a chace though on also adding Tyler Bashlor, Gerson Bautista, and Adonis Uceta.

Bashlor looks like he might have turned a corner with his dominant last 12 games after moving to AA. Gerson Bautista likewise in his last 10 games since coming to the Mets, though that was in A+ ball. And Uceta seems the farthest away of them, having spent most of the season in low A, but he was also strong in A+ and OK in AA over his last 12 games. It might well be best to wait another year on Uceta.
