LOL.

As if you didn't see this coming when they traded for 6,737 minor league relief only prospects instead of actual real prospects.

This was fait accompli 30 days ago.

No doubt about it. The good news is that this plan is better than the "sign the last reliever available to a minor league contract" we've been running with for awhile. Ramos plus the arms brought back in the deadline *should* result in some 2018 fruits. Just shouldn't preclude the team from doing anything else. But I suspect it will. We're looking at 'nother round of MnL deals IMO.

Maybe this is my fandom showing too much, but I think there are worse things to have than a stable full of 95+ MPH flamethrowers in the 'pen for the middle innings.

This is perhaps too old school, but I would look for a good fielding second baseman this offseason. I wonder what it would take to pry a guy like Joe Panik from the Giants. Pair him with Rosario, and with Lagares in center, the "D" is drastically improved.

They might be then able to get away with a couple of economy moves on a MOR arm and another LOOGY.

Since their big hope this offseason is a return to health, perhaps a few tweaks like this might be enough to nudge them back towards contention.

Wasn't that their big hope last offseason?

So no pop from 1B, 2B, SS, CF, C. Conforto coming off major injury and who knows at 3B. A power packed line-up in the age of Home Runs

Except that they didn't make any additions last year, IIRC. They brought back Yo and Blevins and gave Walker a QO.

They perhaps have one semi-big move in them (Panik) and a few smallish ones (deals for McGee and Estrada/Feldman). They have almost no room to maneuver, payroll-wise, and only a few non-injured pieces they can trade that anyone would want.

Probably the best comparison is that single day in the December of 2011 when Sandy made that horrible deal with the Giants and then signed a pair of ineffective pitch.... oh boy are we screwed

I expect a lot of activity this winter.

Strictly off topic but since no one posts in football thread anymore, NY Jets traded Sheldon Richardson to the Seahawks for Jermaine Kearse (he of the Endy Chavez no one remembers great catch in the Super Bowl against the Pats since the Hawks lost,) and I think 2 draft picks.

Swapped 7th rounders but also net a pick that could be a 2nd or 3rd rounder.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

Maybe.

But we've said that heading into the off season many times the past 6-7 years.

SA has by and large played the hand he's been dealt. Most thought he was going to deal one or two players since the decision to sell and they ended up dealing just about everything they had that wasn't nailed down.

Even they aren't oblivious enough to think this team can compete next season without doing a lot of work this winter and there's no point in wasting the primes of deGrom and Noah or the investment in Yo without trying to compete.

Too bad the Jets don't have a QB to throw it to him. LOL

Yeah, but that's the whole point (in all of these tank moves)...

Now, Rhame is the guy we are most intrigued with, no?

Hard thrower without a great secondary pitch?

We've traded for so many relief-only specs I've forgotten who is who...
