Aoki and Snider are nice depth options, and are worth stashing in Vegas next season. But Nimmo and Lagares should never sit for them.

The big problem is this is already being used as a hedge against Conforto not being able to start the season, which takes one more thing off Sandy's checklist FOR THE NEXT 5 MONTHS......

Exactly. Totally agree. Also, the Mets should do Taijeron and move him to an AL team. He can hit but his defense is... limited.

They can grab him once he's DFA'd.

Well at least he costs less than Alejandro de Aza.

It is frustrating to think that despite the stated ambitions it appears possible that they could view Aoki in the OF and ACab at 3B together with everyone else already here and returning from injury as their view of a playoff roster. While it looks to me that a lot of activity is necessary this winter, I'll admit it's always hard to read them and the mixed signals they put out.

It's weird how fast and nimble the Mets show themselves to be they need a CYA. And by "CYA" I don't mean "Guy who can fill the role in an emergency," I mean, "Guy who's mere existences give Mets a plausible reason not to solve an actual problem." It's strange that we're all thinking the same thing, right? He's starting opening day 2018.

I see that he is merely Arb eligible for the last time next season so the team is under no obligation to keep him (they are free to non-tender him) so hysteria was a little overblown. That said, it's certainly possible they do tender him. Have to believe that would be a roughly $6M nut however. If anything I would have to believe they will n/t him and if they want him back would offer him something in the $2M to $3M range.

De Aza wasn't awful 2012-2015. He had ups and downs but overall he was a guy you could start in a pinch or a solid 4th OF. He just got lousy in 2016.

on Aoki, after today, I kinda like him. We're thin in the OF and thin on lefties. No harm in giving him a look. I expect he'll be cut after the season and maybe brought back on a minor league deal. Nothing wrong with that.

I've always loved a good underdog story. Go Mets (2018). I know an underdog when I see one.
