Heyman Sandy Alomar Jr. could be a very good candidate for the Mets job. Alomar once was a Mets catching coach, and he will be a terrific manager. GM Sandy Alderson puts a lot of stock in experience, and there will be choices with more experience, assuming the Mets decide to make a change. But he is a name with Mets ties who’d be a fine choice. (And as a plus they’d have the first ever Sandy-Sandy GM-manager combo).

I have an odd feeling its going to be McEwing.

Hope you're right (about Geren).

That was one of the main reasons but being offered a major promotion would outweigh that.

Why? They have a good relationship with the FO and analytically competent at the least.

Love Perez.

Kapler is not happening given the Nick Francona lawsuit.

Acta FTW and FTWs to come. Nothing would get me more excited about 2018.

Another vote for Acta:

According to sources within the organization, the Mets are keen on the idea of bringing in someone they consider more technologically savvy and more fluent in analytical and sabermetrics: someone in the mold of the Cardinals Mike Matheny.

LOL @ Acta. Look i get that he didn't have great talent to manage, but I seriously doubt the Mets are going to sell many people on bringing in a manager who has a career Winning percentage of .418.

There isn't a manager out there that "sells" Mets fans on the 2018 team c'mon. Bob Geren does that? Kevin Long? Dick Scott? There is no Joe Maddon out there. Talent is what the fans care about the managerial choice won't move the needle in terms of "selling" the 2018 team to fans/the media.

So, with the news the TC is all but certain to "retire," I am not too keen on Sandy making the decision on the next manager. I have a hard time believing Sandy is here for more than another season, two tops. It is really best to start completely fresh next season with a new GM and let him have some say in the manager. I know people will claim the Wilpons will overrule any GM but it is a recipe for disaster to not have a GM have at least minimal impact on the coach. Just look at the Jets for the most recent examples of this.
