Not even sure if this is serious or not. If so, my lack of interest in the 40 brow beating is that there are just so few players in this org worth taking the time to discuss. I see already that people are getting worked up over a UT IFer with zero bat. People got all kinds of silly over Wilmer Becerra a year ago and Nido and Molina, etc. There are prob an easy 10 players or more who can be or will be dropped from the 40 w/o dropping a bead of sweat. The opportunity to see an Evans or Boyd these last 4 weeks - potential 2018 assets - certainly trumps the notion that it will cause any 40 distress. That just seems like a contrived claim to me, given our particular circumstances.

Why are you "beading sweat" then over Evans and Boyd who are basically non-entities?

What more do we want them to do in the minors? Both are about as ripe as they are likely to get. There's an opportunity to see them up here that [hopefully if all goes right] won't come around again in the near future.

Who are the 40 man cases we are going to sweat out? Nabil Crismatt? That is not to disparage or dismiss him in particular. But if we end up losing someone, the likelihood of that player blowing up is so small that it isn't worth all the annual sweating that goes on. People are talking up Guillorme. If he becomes the next Hechavarria or Galvis, which seems a best case, I think the org would survive.

Fine if you want to argue that neither Evans or Boyd or McNeil are likely to help the team in 2018 (or beyond) any more than Guillorme or Crismatt. I prob would disagree with that tho.

I respect where he's coming from. Boyd or Evans could be next year's TJ Rivera and everyone likes TJ now. 13 months ago he wasn't considered worth discussing.

I disagree on Nido and Molina. Molina was a top 10 prospect with very sexy stuff, who might never recover from his injuries, but there was legit upside. Nido is potentially our top defensive catcher and could see significant playing time as early as 2019, with an intro in 2018. Sure his bat is a question but very few guys can catch well. That makes Nido interesting.

I think Boyd's bat has potential. He's struggled at times and dealt with injuries, but if anyone has a potential TJ rivera breakout chance, I think it's him. I'm less high on Evans, unless he can play 3rd base like a defensive wizard, I don't really see much there. I'm not sure how much he brings at the plate.

The mets might just ignore both guys for 40 man reasons, leaving them as options for 2018 without adding them to the roster. The way the rules are written, that might be the smart play (They brought Taijeron up, but I think they felt more willing to risk losing him).

Anyhoo, it's not a big deal to me, but I see where Heynow is coming from and I think it's always fun to see a guy get his first cup of coffee in the majors, no matter who he is.

and, I've always loved a good underdog story. Go Mets (2018).

I'm not looking at any of these guys we're now discussing as any more than bench options. I look at these guys more or less as I see Flores, which is an ideal bench option, not a starter. These players are all flawed but they are potential to replace Flores on the roster going forward.

I know some like Flo as a potential everyday starter on the IF. Otoh I think he's pretty much exactly what you want in a guy who can come off the bench - can fake it at a few positions but more importantly, can hit and generally give you a competitive AB. I won't go thru the flaws again bc it's been said so many times already but the thing about Flo that is becoming more relevant is that he's going to be entering Arb2 so not only is he going to start costing $, but every day he stays with the team into 2018 his value prob diminishes.

So, to me (a person who doesn't see Flo as an everyday player), I'd prefer to cash him in while he may still have value (presumably to an AL team) to fill another team need... and replace him with someone internally. I'm at least curious to see if any of these Vegas options has the potential to fill the Flo role, and maybe TJR is already that guy as long as his TJ recovery doesn't linger. And then there are guys like Evans and Boyd and McNeil would could provide that next level of depth into next season. Be good for them to get that first cup of coffee now tho.
