Phills definitely have some talent. They need to add a pitcher or two. But the Marlins? Hah. Jeter apparently wants to cut their payroll to 55 Million and they are probably trading Stanton.

Yeah I don't see them trading Stanton... unless they want to be loathed and alienate their fans right away.

If Jeter wants to trim the payroll to $55 Mil as reported, then it makes zero sense for them to hang on to Stanton. Trade him and get the best prospect package you can and hope you go on to become the Astros.

Where are these Jeter slashing the payroll rumors coming from? And I thought he had to cede control of baseball ops anyway?

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald made the claim.

"In fact, a potential investor who was specifically briefed by the Bruce Sherman/Jeter group this summer said they spoke of a payroll being pulled back from $115 million to potentially as low as $55 million (if Giancarlo Stanton is traded) or $80 million to $85 million if Stanton is retained at $25 million next season.

Whether those numbers have changed since the investor was briefed is unclear, because those conversations happened before the Marlins surged back into wild card contention in recent weeks."

The Marlins aren't going full rebuild and losing 105 games for 3 straight years. I expect them to take another shot with this roster.
