Michael Mayer @mikemayerMMO 5m5 minutes ago More Mets going to the Arizona Fall League include Tomas Nido, Luis Guillorme, David Thompson and Kevin Kaczmarski.

Most interested to see what Thompson does.
It's looking more like Nido's 2016 was a fluke. I still like him as a potential backup, but if he can't hit he shouldn't be the starter. Definitely not writing him off, but he's not a teenager anymore. At some point potential has to become reality.
Guillorme has always profiled as a bench player, so while I like him, the ceiling is super limited.
Kacz is a nice minor leaguer. Hustles, can play all three OF spots, but doesn't have any plus tools that I'm aware of. Maybe a 4th or 5th outfielder if everything breaks right?
Thompson, to me, is the clear guy to watch in the group because his glove has rated out well all throughout the minors and he has swung it like a legit prospect the last 100+ games. Among the four, he has the best chance to develop into a starting player (Nido not too far behind because catchers don't need to hit all that much).

Jeff McNeil would have been the first player I'd have sent to the AFL since he missed so much time the past 2 seasons. He needs to play in games perhaps more than anyone.
And I would've added Alonso who also lost about a month of the season. He may have had more time in AA had he not missed that month. AFL is a pretty solid level of competition. You'd like to get a better read on what you got with Alonso.

McNeil not making it suggests they aren't all that high on him. Kaczmarski will be 26 next season, .734 OPS in AA as a CO playing exclusively CO and he gets the call despite McNeil missing a TON of time the last 2 seasons.

McNeil was also sent to AFL in 2015. Not sure if that was a factor.
I like that list. I had a feeling Thompson would be one (but that wasn't hard to predict). I like all 4 of those guys.
McNeil has played 45 games in 2 years. I fail to see the relevance of him playing in the AFL 2 years ago when it's clear he needs AB's. Unless of course they aren't high on him.... Kaczmarski may or may not be a future 4th or 5th OF but he's 26 next season and 4th on his own team in wRC+ (Decker, Taylor, Oberste) and 4th in wOBA so I'm not exactly sure we are supposed to be all that intrigued by. At least McNeil has speed and legit versatility (appearance in LF, CF, RF, 1b, 2b, 3B, SS).

Meh. It's the Mets. I don't think it "suggests" anything specific. I know that isn't going to stop people from reading all sorts of things into it, as Met fans do with everything. Altho being high on or not high on a player is admittedly pretty esoteric.
Adding Kaczmarski - a total non-prospect by this point - pretty much proves that it means virtually nothing.
And of course, they have added [and subtracted] from their initial AFL announcement in the past, so I doubt this is final. I think last year they had 6 or 7 players (and maybe even more). Of course they will add an arm (or 2 or 3) but it's entirely possible they add McNeil (or someone else) by the time they get started out there.
Given how sparse the IF is shaped up for 2018, it's kind of illogical for the org not to want to give him every opportunity IMO.

They have slots for 4 pitchers.
