They are giving Nimmo burn, if Cecchini doesn't get "significant" burn over the final few weeks I would assume he's not in their plans going forward.

And you think they really have a plan going forward..? Sorry, but I think this is just some crude form of "next man up." I mean, if not for a couple of injuries, Nimmo wouldn't be playing right now. So while what you're saying is logical, the facts on the ground don't really jive there. Cheech will prob see some action now that Flo is done and ACab is likely out thru the w/e. And if Cheech doesn't "show something" in that limited opening, he'll continue to be labelled/considered as a fringe guy into next year just as Nimmo would have been.

Face it... there is no "plan" to audition these young players. Players seeing daylight now are due to attrition.

Except in this case they talked up wanting to see Matt Reynolds.... not Cecchini. Matt Reynolds!!

I don't think that's fair to make it seem the Mets are forced to play the kids due to massive injuries. I mean they have traded almost every vet to make PT available sans AsCab (and then they may want to bring him back). Cheech they seem to be down on anyway especially after the rough season he's had up to date. Now is the time they give him some significant burb. His time is due to attrition not Nimmo or Montero or insert any kid. Cheech is down there with Taj so you see where he kinda stands.

I want to give him the off season to continue to strengthen the shoulder before writing him off as done.

I wish it were so but this is simply not the case. The only kids they made conscious openings for have been Rosario and Smith. Plaw is getting a partial opening now also. And yes they are going to look at some of the RPs - Callahan and Rhame.

Nimmo is only playing bc Yo and Scooter are hurt. Until just now, the IF has still included Cabrera and Reyes almost everyday. Jose Reyes actually leads the team in PAs. Cabrera is right behind him. Monty and Flexen have only pitched bc of injuries, not any plan to audition them either.

Well, there you go. Now maybe it will take a few more injuries to get Boyd or McNeil up.

I wonder what rookie hazing is like when 45% of the roster is rookies.

I've always loved a good underdog story. Go Mets (2018). I know an underdog when I see one.

I think they can count on Flores to play 2B but they seem hell-bent on making Flores a third baseman. Might also be a guy you want to play 1B against LH pitching more than Smith.

3B is looking like the easiest position to make an impact on this team and through free agency. Really need to consider Mike Moustakas.

An infield of Smith-Flores-Moustakas-Rosario with Rivera and Cabrera might not be the worst thing.

I'd hate to lose a second rounder in such a deep draft, especially in the middle of a transition within our system that has left it on the light side. I'd rather sign Reyes or Cabrera to play it, give Evans a long look, do what you have to do to grind it out til midseason. If the pitching stayed healthy and you are competing then use the buyers market that raked us over the coals in 2017.

That's a tough call on Moustakas, cause Cabrera is a pretty big step down, but I also would hate to lose the pick.

Yu Darvish? Is that a crazy idea given how unpredictable our pitching was this year?

Bring back Neil Walker who might want to play 2nd and leave us without a good 3rd base option.

Bring back Walker & Cabrera? Much as I hate to say it, I think this might be their option. Walker could be their biggest signing this off-season. I think they need to add a starting pitcher too.

Probably won't be a great off season, but I'm just guessing. Maybe Sandy has some tricks up his sleeve.

I'm all for Yu Darvish. The more top line pitchers they have, they less they need from Matz, Wheeler, Harvey, etc. That could even push Gsellman and Lugo to the pen.

Missed the game last night but yeah, 1 strikeout is not encouraging. Has to reinvent himself as a pitcher.
