Funny what a few wins can do. I actually caught myself feeling somewhat hopeful about next year. Let's see what happens next week vs. CHC.

Carig says: "And for what it’s worth, early indications are that Reyes isn’t seen as a fit with Mets as they plan for ’18."

That's interesting because he seems the best fit of any realistic option short of moose

Could he be a potential 2B option?

Again, bc of his versatility, Reyes is a solid bench option. It's when he plays every day that it becomes a problem. He can't hit much from the left side anymore and his defense leaves much to be desired. But he's viable around the IF in a backup role.

Yes, lets waste $2-3m of limited resources next year on a guy that is average and redundant.

I'm not advocating it. There should be enough other younger cheaper options.

How is a switch hitter with speed who can be our backup SS and play 3 positions redundant? Now, I'm not saying he's essential, but he's hitting a little bit now and he's reportedly a good clubhouse guy. I wouldn't object to Reyes coming back, but it also depends on the other moves they make.

I've always loved a good underdog story. Go Mets (2018). I know an underdog when I see one.

I'm not getting how he's redundant, and can play SS well still, 2B decent, and play 3B (albeit his worse position)

and who in FA are you bringing in to fill that role?

I'd like a bench guy I'm not locked into for 500 ABs.

Agreed. And problem is Reyes would somehow manage 500 ABs next season if he were a Met. And most people will think it's at Jeff's directive.

You only become locked in when none of the starters can stay healthy and you have a fire sale.

Bringing back Reyes as a bench guy is fine. Not sure why anyone would really have an issue with that for baseball reasons. The issue is that if Terry/FO play him more than he deserves which seems to have happened this year.
