Yeah, I know someone could stand at 1B but this is a missed opportunity. And yes, I'd much rather see Boyd than Taijeron. But we could see both now.
He'd probably play once every fifth day anyways. Better to chance him in the Rule V than add him to the 40 now and DFA him in the offseason. He's not going to be worth a 40 spot this offseason with Guillorme, Oswalt, Bashlor, Bautista, etc. all needing spots.
To clear that roster spot so they can sign that inevitable veteran anyway? Heisey, Valencia, Nava...?
Also, I would much rather see Boyd have 3 ABs every 5th day til the end of the year than Cheech (someone who needs to be removed from the 40 man this offseason).

Not sure how this view of Cheech is rational. Is this because Terry refuses to write his name in the lineup? You have no idea what he can really do otherwise. And don't tell me lousy season in Vegas. That really doesn't mean all that much... not so much that it significantly changed his forecast from where it was when this season began.
Granted he may turn into nothing at all, but there is no logical reason for them to keep playing Jose freakin Reyes over any kids right now.

My eyes tell me all I need to know about Cheech. Awful swing. Awful fielder. No power. No range. Awkward around the bag. Face it, he's a bust.

Made BA's league top twenty 3 different times. Mets BA top ten 5 straight times. BA could be wrong, but as wrong as you're suggesting? I don't think so. I mean, I think there is more potential there than Matt Reynolds, for one thing.
I don't see any reason to dismiss this guy yet. Still just 23. Either he'll get throw into a deal this winter or he's a candidate for the 2018 bench. Yeah, I don't see him as a candidate for the starting 2B job but as one of the depth options... why not? If it's between Cheech and Jose Reyes coming back at $4M, I'd opt for the younger legs.

Both Cecchini and Rivera "blew" chances to slide into every day roles last year (100% understand getting hurt wasn't Rivera's choice, thus the quotes) but both had golden opportunities.

How many impact major leaguers have 500 PAs in AAA with an 85 wRC+ with no injuries or other extenuating circumstances?
And him not playing has as much to do with Sandy as Terry. Remember like two weeks ago when Sandy pivoted to talking about Reynolds when asked about Cecchini?
I'd say Reyes has a better chance of being with the org next year than Cecchini does. He's done here.

Fully prepared to include Sandy in the indictment. I'm completely done with both of them.

Might be a good thing for our org depth that TJ got hurt, though. If he's still playing well we might be content to go with just some combo of him/Flores/Asdrubal between 2B and 3B but with his status being uncertain maybe we'll get another guy. That's probably wishful thinking, though.

I'm not a huge fan of the way Sandy has handled post-2015 operations, but let's be real, the org knows more than we do about our prospects and if they're done with Cecchini to the point that they're playing Reynolds over him there's probably good reason for it.

Ah, the old, 'there must be a reason' reason... gotcha. Well, I've been around this team long enough to know there usually is no plan for the way things happen... or not one that makes a whole lot of sense anyway. So, no there is no credit to the team for 'some reason' they keep playing Reyes and Cabrera every nite when both are unlikely to be on the 2018 Mets.

I'd say there's a ~75% chance that Asdrubal is on the 2018 Mets. And Reyes' chances of being on the 2018 Mets are greater than Cecchini's.
I see zero reason to be positive about Cecchini after this season. He's not a part of our future and we don't really need 200 PA to confirm what we already know. He's honestly just complaint fodder at this point.
