So it's a matter of you wanting to spend more money to sign lottery picks? The top guys are being found. It would mean signing more guys going nowhere.

Not sure what that accomplishes

If you can spend $100M on Mike Moustakas, or sign 100 of the better International players or high school kids, which do you think is going to work out better for he overall health of your Organization?

More eggs, more baskets.

I'm not even sure where this is going but how many Moustakoses do you think a class of 100 intl signees yields?

I'm convinced Cabrera is the plan for 3B next year.

50?

20?

10?

1?

You have to be good at it, and you have to be a little lucky. But even if your failure rate is 90% you're still looking at 3 good starters instead of 1.

You act like you're playing by your preferred rules but no one else is.

Let every team spend whatever they want to amateurs and then what are your odds?

No knock on DW but IF the Mets wanted to pursue a "good" FA 3B, they almost certainly would want a DW "clarification"

I'd think releasing him would provide sufficient clarification.

I'm just saying (and no knock on David) but if a team has a 3b opening and they are competing with the Mets I think any solid FA is going to want to know if David Wright is the 3B "until proven otherwise", or "if he feels well enough to play 3b he will be the 3b", which good FA wants to split time or potentially split time or deal with that?

Yes, if you get a significant upgrade there, and David does manage to come back, then David would likely be the one who would have to change positions to get his opportunities. On the other hand, if it's a less premium guy, or for that matter a guy like Nunez who is also comfortable at 2B, then it's easier to say a healthy Wright might play 3B.

But if a promising FA wants to be assured he'll be starting at 3B, I think it's obvious you give that assurance. Odds you can rely on David are pretty low at this point.

I'm thinking of a guy like Frazier who is quietly having another good season. I'm sure he's going to find multiple teams who are offering "starting 3b" vs. "well sometimes Wright will play, vs. tough lefties you can see some time at 1b" etc. An above average player is likely going to ask the "David Wright" question. I know I would.

I agree, and I can live with that if the spend somewhere else like the OF, SP, 2B, RP, or C in that general order.

Yeah seems straightforward enough to me also. It's likely that if he comes back, it'll be more sprinkled around the IF but I would assume mostly 1B. I'm sure he already knows this. Having a young 1Bman makes this easier to do.

Agreed. They need a substantial upgrade at at least one offensive position and in the pen/rotation.

And "getting back a dozen healthy players" does not count. Because quite honestly, most of them will still be health question marks heading into 2018.
