Coaching Staff Changes

Tue Oct 03, 2017 9:47 am

Aside from the obvious that Collins and Warthen are reassigned, of most interest is that Ray Ramirez is out. Begin applause.

Also Sherlock is staying at 3B. Kevin Long is being retained.

Dick Scott, Tom Goodwin and Ricky Bones are being given permission to speak to other teams pending selection on a new manager.

Wacky, out-of-the-box idea.

Why not let the new manager pick his coaches?

Romanick has been the minor league pitching coordinator since 2012. Not hard to see why he's a favorite.

By the way, why is Viola's name not coming up?

The Mets will retain coaches Kevin Long and Pat Roessler along with third base Coach Glenn Sherlock who is already under contract for 2018. Long is considered a strong candidate to replace Terry Collins as manager

You've immediately driven off every ambitious attractive candidate by showing him he's walking in here with limited input.

Whoa. The Mets kept this under wraps until they announced it.

Wonder if Kevin Long's retention is procedural while he is considered for manager. All the press was he would leave if not chosen.

Sherlock, while THOROUGHLY UNIMPRESSIVE from a fan perspective at his job, is supposedly well liked throughout the game so that doesn't likely to scare anyone off.

And the Asst. Hitting Coach - he grabs the morning coffees right? I don't think thats going to affect a manager.

If anything, this may indicate a first timer is likelier as building out a totally new staff may be difficult.
