Terrasas when asked about guys they were high on outside of the 3 1st rounders... Kirk and....\

As we go down, there’s a third baseman, Eric Campbell, out of Boston College. We had him here at the Shea workout. We were very impressed with the workout that he had, and also our scout was more or less banging the table, ‘We need this guy.’ He felt very good about him.

At the time of the draft an audible "eruption" could be heard when the Mets announced the pick.

Anthony Kay...until proven otherwise I actually feel comfortable with our two "pedigree" southpaws in the top 3 right now. I know Kay will not make the top 5 here but I am certain he will be in the top 10.

I feel Peterson and Kay should be ahead of Szupucki and Humpfrey primarily because the former two WILL be pitching next year, while the latter two won't be able to pitch until 2019.

BTW: I DO like both Alonso and Vientos. I just have a thing for southpaw pitchers who can throw a baseball harder than 90 mph...

Mark Vientos is the choice here. Well-rounded player who actually showed well in the GCL as a 17-year-old, even hitting 4 home runs.

Really can't see how Dunn gets a vote here. AWFUL season. Shoulder soreness and 88-92 on the gun? Not saying he can't bounce back but #3 in the system?

I don't understand the Peterson pick at 1 or 2. He's thrown like 5 innings of professional ball and doesn't really have stand out stuff. Gimenez, Vientos and Alonso are the clear top three right now (whatever way you want to rank them).

If you feel that way, you must have hated the pick when Peterson was drafted. Because his profile hasn't changed.

Alonso had a solid season, but he's still a RH 1B. His bat needs to carry him. I'd say he still has a lower ceiling than Peterson. And Vientos only played in the GCL, where he didn't stand out either.

Vientos seems to come up because maybe a year ago some people thought he was a potential 1st round talent, but he hasn't really looked like one recently. I'm not sure at this point whether he should rank over David Thompson.

I'm torn between Otani and Tebow.

I have an overall problem with overvaluing (my word) college pitchers right out of the draft unless they have exceptional stuff. I need a year of full pro ball to start putting them in top organizational spots. The three position players mentioned all at least have one plus tool.

Has BA not done this years GCL list yet?

If he gets some attention when they talk to GCL league observers there, maybe I'll be more comfortable with ranking him highly. I was mistakenly looking at last years list and thinking he was overlooked.

Vientos had a verbal agreement with the Braves at 41. If he went a few picks later than first round I’m not sure how that suggests some sort of “dropped stock”.

Well I'm partly in agreement there. The safe "mid-rotation" arms there are nearly always guys who will top out by AA. But, it seems like 8 of 10 of the high school "aces" will be busts as well.

For now though, it might be in Peterson's favor that he hasn't proven yet what a lousy pick he was.

Keith Law had Vientos #24 overall on his board

"Keith Law

Vientos is one of the more promising prep bats in the class, with good bat speed and big rotation for future power. He’ll be just 17½ years at the draft, and he looks it, with a young body that offers a ton of physical projection. He’s a shortstop now but almost certainly moves off the position to third or second, and he’s a below-average runner who needs to get a lot stronger."

Duquette claimed the Mets were taking him with their first until Peterson fell.

(I say this in regard to Vientos vs. Thompson).

I think the Mets would deal Thompson tomorrow for "another" AJ Ramos and most on this board would applaud the move. Vientos in a similar swap? Not so much.

They've done Sally, International & FSL but all are behind a paywall. I don't see GCL. Gimenez should have made the Sally list I would think. Sixto Sanchez of the Phillies was #1.
