We have the 2018 thread asking what we think the FO will do. This is the what would YOU do thread.

The only rule is you must stay within Wilpon payroll constraints. This appears to be somewhere between $135-140m according to multiple reports. NO GOING OVER.

Guaranteed Contracts
Yoenis Cespedes, OF: $29MM ($87.5MM through 2020)
David Wright, 3B: $20MM ($47MM through 2020)
Juan Lagares, OF: $6.5MM ($15.5MM through 2019)

Contract Options
Asdrubal Cabrera, INF: $8.5MM club option or $2MM buyout
Jerry Blevins, RP: $7MM club option or $1MM buyout

Arbitration-Eligible Players (service time in parentheses; projections by MLBTR)
Nori Aoki (5.148) – $6.3MM
Tommy Milone (5.113) – $2.2MM
Matt Harvey (5.072) – $5.9MM
AJ Ramos (5.030) – $9.2MM
Jeurys Familia (5.024) – $7.4MM
Zack Wheeler (4.098) – $1.9MM
Travis d’Arnaud (4.044) – $3.4MM
Wilmer Flores (4.003) – $3.7MM
Jacob deGrom (3.139) – $9.2MM
Noah Syndergaard (2.149) – $1.9MM
Hansel Robles (2.127) – $1.0MM

Other Estimates
I've seen estimates that it takes about $5MM for "other" 40-man roster moves throughout the year. So add that as well.

GO!

Only one major signing (Cosart or Walker), two pen signings (Reed, Smith, McGee, Watson), and removal of several pricier fluff pieces (Ramos, Lagares, Wright's full salary

Keepers:
--Cespedes, Conforto, Smith, Rosario, TdA, Plawecki, Nimmo, Cabrera (because it is inevitable), Wilmer (unless he could be moved as part of a solid trade), Wright (it's happening one way or the other), Evans
--deGrom, Thor, Wheeler, Matz, Lugo, Gsellman (unless he can be traded), Molina, Flexen, Harvey (if Harvey is retained, I doubt the Mets spend much on starter)
--Familia, Blevins, Rhame, Callaghan, Sewald, Bradford

Roster Additions
--Bashlor, Bautista, Oswalt, Uceta, Guillorme

Look to trade:
--Ramos, Lagares, Robles, Cecchini (obviously not in the plans), Montero, Goeddel,

Bye-bye
--Milone, Aoki, Reynolds, Reyes, Becerra, Smoker, McGowan, Taijeron

Look to obtain:
--Zack Cosart (or Neil Walker)
--AJ Pollock (maybe some combo of Ramos, Lagares, Robles, Flexen, minor league pen arm for Pollock/Owings?)
--Joe Smith and/or Addison Reed
--Minor league invite outfielder or if Dyson/Grandy could be had cheaply

1B - Smith/Wilmer/Wright
2B - Cabrera or Walker
SS - Rosario
3B - Cosart or Cabrera/Wright
RF - Conforto/Nimmo
CF - Pollock/Nimmo
LF - Cespedes/signee
C - TdA/Plawecki

SP - Inevitably, Thor, deGrom, Matz, Wheeler, Harvey (Lugo, some veteran signee we don't like, Gsellman waiting in the wings)
RP - Familia, Blevins, Smith, Reed, Sewald, two of Callaghan, Bashlor, Rhame, Smith, etc...)

Not happening though.

I know a lot of us are tired of Harvey's act, but 5.9 Mill is kinda cheap.

I'm a lot less hostile to the act when he isn't the worst pitcher in baseball.

So do we assume that we get an extra 15 mil as Insurance payment for Wright?

Ha, yeah right. You know the Mets will count his entire salary when they talk about their projected payroll this winter.

Sure, but I think it's already counted.

My plan is boring. Starting pitcher (Darvish?) and a OF/2B/3B type. Maybe that guy Boston traded for but I'd like a bit better.

and a lefty bullpen arm. thats it. keep Cabrera.

Spend nothing.

No one gets more than 1 year.

I'd figure the Marlins are going to trade Stanton, but just not to the Mets. I would pursue Yelich and Gordon (combined $80M in salaries). Start with Cespedes and offer to take on some of Yo's salary ($87M remaining). Allow them to choose a few names from anyone on the roster not named deGrom, Syndergaard, Matz, Familia, Rosario or Conforto.

Mets get two athletic, well-rounded players. Marlins get a local hero, some salary relief and a few lottery tickets.

Mets also sign Colon, Ceseck and Joe Smith.

Cespedes has a full NTC and by every indication loves New York. I get that Miami is a secondary home to a lot of Cuban ballplayers (and Cubans in general), but I wouldn't assume that he'd be so willing to leave a city where he seems to have really invested himself.

So you don't want Yelich and Gordon? The Marlins aren't going to just give them away...
