You know I criticize this team for their bashing guys on the way out game, but there are loud enough whispers where even I, who's not really insider connected at all, have heard plenty about Harvey's alleged exploits that I have a feeling we're going to get a real whopper of a news dump whenever he finally does leave.

I think the above idea that Harvey's a guy who gave everything he had and sacrificed his career for the franchise is a little too idealistic/polyanna.

But maybe I'm just becoming everything I hate.

"Harvey's Act" being... what, exactly? Having the single greatest season returning from TJS and then suffering TOS, a career killer?

I'm so tired of this fanbase killing Matt Harvey. Sick of it.

Same here

Me three. I get it, Harvey's not perfect. He's not David Wright. He's not a team leader, he's kinda out for himself, at the same time, so what. He's had a lot of injuries to deal with and he's still given the mets an exciting rookie campaign and 2 nifty seasons and 10 war, for 11 million in salary so far. Curtis Granderson gave us 10 war for over 50 million and everyone loves him. Harvey's more up and down, but his ups were very good. That should count for something.

As you said, he's not a team leader, he's out for himself, plus other places you didn't go with this.

People here are running David Wright out the door after his career, what he gave for the team, his leadership, etc, etc and you want me to accept Harvey's couple season as a reason to give him a break?

People are running David Wright out because he has a high salary, which apparently makes him bad per fandom.

Because despite everything people say against the Wilpons, we primarily judge players on whether they are being over/under paid, which is a measure that only really affects the Wilpons' bank accounts - so at our core, we are almost always really just concerned with the financial well being of the Wilpons, which is crazy ironic, no??

I like David Wright. If I met him on the street, I'd give him a fan's stare or give him a thumbs up or say something like "big mets fan - love you David" - in a manly way, ofcourse. I hate Wright's contract. I love David Wright. And yes, I think he should retire and I think the whole system stinks with 40 man roster spots and insurance payouts and all that. If I got into a conversation with DW, the first thing I'd ask him is "why don't you retire - off the record, I'd like to hear his honest answer"

I like Harvey too. And yes, I think you should give Harvey a break. He's given this team a lot and he's had to deal with career-threatening injuries.

If I got into a conversation with Harvey the first thing I'd ask him is "do you think metsfans suck?" Fans have always been quick to turn on a player. I've never shared that POV. Then I'd ask him if he could pitch anywhere, where he'd like to pitch next year.

See how loyal he'd be when his contract's up. (If he were healthy of course)

Not sure what his loyalty has to do with anything. It's a $6 million dollar investment for 2018, nothing more nothing less. Either way he's out the door after 2018 for prospects or free agency all depending upon how he pitches

The person I was replying to seemed to indicate that we should have some loyalty to Harvey because of two seasons (while ignoring other stuff). That's why my wondering about reciprocal loyalty came up.

I find it to be sad that those would be the first things you'd say to each respective person.

Loyalty is a two way street. Besides, based on his performance, you should be happy that Harvey and the Mets didn't work out an extension 3-4 years ago.

In the long run, what hurt the Mets more, Wright's loyalty or Reyes desire to test free agency?

I don't believe in judging a player based on "loyalty" when it's a business on both the player side and the team side. Players have a right to test free agency.

If I met Wright on the street, the first thing I did would be to give him a big hug. And then to tell him he's the last person on the planet that deserves everything that's befallen him since 2015.

Ditto Harvey.

Is Harvey a saint? No lol.
Is he "likeable?" That's debateable.
Did he give his all for the Mets? I'd say yeah, yeah he did.
Does he tend to bring some backlash/outlashing upon himself? Unquestionably yes, yes he does.
Is it likely that he's engaged in behavior that's been detrimental to a team-orientated sport? Probably yes.
Does it matter? Not to me. I see a guy who put up a 2.50 era for 3 seasons when healthy who is dealing with a career killing injury and... it's ... killing his career.
