Prado is owed like $30M for 2 yrs. You're not buying into the sound bite that the team doesn't mind spending $ in the short term if they don't have to give up prospects..?

And the Marlins aren't paying half that $ for Prado, and that's the only way that could make any sense.

Here's a refreshed try with the hope of distracting from all the negativity around here (no matter how warranted). Baseball reference says we're at $127.7M right now: https://www.baseball-reference.com/team ... acts.shtml

Already done:
- Non-tendered Aoki and Milone saving $8.5M.
- Picked up options on Cabrera and Blevins.
- Signed Anthony Swarzak to 2 year, $14M deal.

Still to do:
- Sign Lorenzo Cain for 3 years, $40M ($12M in 2018).
- Trade Cheech, Dunn, and Gsellman for Whit Merrifield. ($wash)
- Trade Monty for Profar ($wash).
- Sign Tony Watson for 2 years, $14M.

That gets me to $146.7M, and I'm giving myself a break for going over the cap, thinking I make it up in Wright insurance. The result:

Lineup
1. Cain CF
2. Merrifield 2B
3. Conforto RF (Nimmo/Lagares if he's not healthy)
4. Cespedes LF
5. Cabrera 3B
6. Smith 1B (Flores vs. lefties)
7. Rosario SS
8. d'Arnaud C

Bench
Nimmo OF
Lagares OF
Profar IF
Flores IF
Plawecki C

Rotation
deGrom
Syndergaard
Matz
Harvey
Wheeler/Lugo

Bullpen
Familia
Ramos
Blevins
Swarzak
Watson
Robles/Sewald/Callahan/Rhame/Bradford
Lugo/Wheeler

If you believe the writers Cain already has multiple 4 year offers on the table for 40 aint happening

I like that you picked up a couple of my ideas!

Cain is going to get like 50% more than that. But heck, I'd be ok if they did the other three moves besides Cain... Merrifield, Profar and Watson. Not going to hold breath of course.

Jays have interest in Lorenzo Cain. They’re believed to prefer a four-year deal. However he’s thought to have strong market.

Unless he signs with a contender and takes less I'd be stunned if he doesn't land at least 4 for 70.

Yes, I believe I did steal your Profar idea. I agree with your Merrifield stance.

Good point on Cain (you, too, Metro). Maybe Bruce will take an even nicer deal (3/36?). Would also add some needed pop to that lineup.

1. Merrifield 2B
2. Conforto CF (Nimmo/Lagares if he's not healthy)
3. Cespedes LF
4. Bruce RF
5. Cabrera 3B
6. Smith 1B (Flores vs. lefties)
7. Rosario SS

Merrifield had one AWFUL month July 2016 but otherwise all he has done is hit.

I like that he steals a lot of bases, too.

Whenever a plan involves "I can squeeze this guy into our budget if I just assume he gets a contract way lower than asking/expectations", its probably not realistic.

I can get a plan for the rest of the offseason for $25m that gets me a backend SP (Lance Lynn - haven't heard interest, must be light market!- 3/30, backload it, $8m this year), another RP (Seung Hwan Oh - no discussion - 1/$3), a lefty signed to a minor league deal (Boone Logan's coming back from injury - no way he gets g'teed money, $2m if he makes team) and Jay Bruce (he wants 5/80 but I'll give him 3/40 and backload it - $10m this year) and that gives me room for Reyes at 2B too!

None of that is realistic, though.

More likely to see Lind get an AAV near Moreland's (~7m), Walker get 10-12m on a short term deal, and then another arm around 5. Boom, offseason done.

Heyman actually had a list of teams in on Lynn. I believe Cubs, Brewers, Rangers, Orioles and Astros were all on there. Sounds like his market is going to be better than people expect.

As for Oh

"Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports that multiple teams are pursuing free agent reliever Seung Hwan Oh."

If the Mets were to land Makita he will be awful and if he goes somewhere else he'll be dominant for 1-2 seasons.

Gonna say it ends up being something like:

Duda for the 1/8M + option I mentioned elsewhere. 1B gigs are drying up and this will be too easy for the Mets to pass up.

Monty for Profar

Then if they get lucky after the Cards make an IF acquisition, the Mets could make a deal for Gyorko flipping AJR and Thompson. Gyorko is signed for the next 2 yrs for 23M I think. Was a 2.5 win player with 16 DRS at 3B this year.

Sign Jared Hughes to a 1/2M deal

Sign Ian Krol and Alen Hanson to minor league deals.

Maybe flip Robles for Matt Szczur or another spare part.

All that is a net addition of maybe $12M. Sounds about right. Would think they'd have room to add a real LHer at that payroll.

Gyorko is only owed 2 for 17.5... which is both appealing but also means your offer likely isn't enough. He's almost certainly worth more than that and his contract is cheap enough where they can use him all over the field if need be.
