I guess the "what would you do" question is fluid. As time passes and player are signed or not signed, the situation changes.

So in the face of the question what would you do NOW

I'd sign two more solid veterans to 3 year deals while the prices are low. Combine them with Bruce and you'll be filling up enough holes on the 25 man roster that that weak farm system could mature at its own pace.

How about an opt-out deal for a rotation piece to get a guy on board for 2018?

Cobb or Lynn: 3 years, $45M with 1st year opt out.
Nunez: 2 years, $20M.
Watson: 2 years, $15M ($6M/$9M).
Wheeler and Lagares for a decent non-roster OF for the system (no idea who).

I've seen we're at about $135M right now? This adds about $22.5M. Maybe they can convince the Wilpons to go over budget citing the Wright insurance money, and the hope that Cobb/Lynn will opt out.

Lineup
Nunez 2B
Conforto CF (Nimmo in April)
Cespedes LF
Bruce RF
Cabrera 3B
Gonzalez 1B
d'Arnaud C
Rosario SS

Bench
Nimmo OF (OF trade return/MiL in April)
Plawecki C/1B
Flores IF
Reyes IF/OF
Guillorme/Cheech IF

Rotation
deGrom
Syndergaard
Cobb/Lynn
Matz
Harvey

Bullpen
Familia
Swarzak
Blevins
Ramos
Watson
Sewald
Lugo, Robles, Callahan, Rhame, etc.

If the Mets add 3 more major league contracts this winter, I will buy you a season-ticket package.

How much did a Win Above Replacement cost over the last few years?

I ask because it looks like they can be had for about 4M/5M each right now.

You still have JDM, Darvish, Arrieta, Hosmer, Moustakas, Lynn, Cobb, Frazier etc still unsigned. It's not going to remain like that at all.

CBS's

2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 14, 16, 17 ranked FA's remain unsigned. I don't doubt some teams will find "deals" but there is still TONS of money that will be spent.

sure they will get paid BUT if JDM is a 5/6 win player and he's getting between 25-30M per year......

Does anyone know what the going rate was last two years for a Win above replacement?

Ha, yeah right. You know the Mets will count his entire salary when they talk about their projected payroll this winter.

Oh look, I was right on something for once.

It seems the payroll situation is fluid. They wont spend as much as they should but if they're talking about another infielder and maybe a lefty reliever it will be more than we feared. I guess i would go with Frazier and Abad. And DFA Reynolds and Montero. Maybe the Orioles have a 40th round pick not on the 40 man that they can send us for Montero.
