They need to take the winter to assess what will win back fans...Sandy can't just spend.

He's going to have to be a bit creative.

They did have incredibly bad luck with injuries and 2015 and 2016 do count for something. Suggest we take this poll again after the Stupor Bowl.

I put like 6 or 7, but that probably goes to an 8 if Long is the manager lol

I vehemently agree with the 10 being NY Knicks territory and we're not there yet BUT by the same token many fans actually prefer the NYK cause they have the highest payroll in the league, never mind it's spent on stiffs like Noah and vastly overpaid guys like Hardaway, and they can't spend on FA cause they're miles over the cap.

I'm with you on pretty much everything.

I feel like people saying the Knicks or Jets are worse are probably bigger basketball or football fans instead of baseball fans. There is no way you can say that anything is worse than Mets ownership when its the easiest sport to succeed in if you operate in a big market. Basketball and football have significant restrictions on how you can run your franchise with their payroll caps.

I don’t understand how this isn’t a unanimous 10. The payroll thing alone should put everyone there. Its incredible how beaten down fans are that they basically excuse a NY team not spending up to near the luxury tax year in and year out. I mean, we’re $50m below it!

Payroll is just a number if you are overspending on too many aging veterans anyway. If the pitchers hadn't broken like the stereotypical young pitcher tends to do, we might already be talking extensions that eat up that 50 mil you mention...... and yet still be the same team on paper. Guess what, I wouldn't put money into that nonsense last year either. Two World Series ago this team was still standing, one World Series ago we were Mad Bummed away from being right back in the thick of the NLDS, and this year we sucked. Anyone going over a 5 is out of their minds with entitlement. I went 4 because our system should be stronger than this, and the training staff has been ludicrous for some time.

I went 10 because it's the same pattern, time and time again, over and over again. It's the owners and that will clearly never change.

1. A very short period of success
2. A misguided, disasterous, idiotic, ill advised attempt to prolong that period, gone about the entirely wrong ways with tier-C class free agents and trades for tier-B players to fill "tier-A" holes
3. Inevitably step 2 blows up, leading to
4. A not firesale in where the team doesn't look for maximum prospect returns, nor do they blow it all up, trying to fool the fanbase and get as many wins/as much revenue/butts in seats as possible, setting up a very poor foundation for

I am "9" That can be upgraded, easily, if Sandy does some magic over the winter, which I am not going to hold my breath for.

I went for 8. Going from WS to tank in two seasons after years of being told to wait for everything to come together for the WS run got me where I am.

As Joe says above, I need to see some Sandy magic to change how I feel, but I don't expect it, so 8.

Many of us have actually accepted the budgetary restrictions, always worrying about "how much will his contact cost; can we afford it?" If we can't afford it, than we don't belong as a NY team. I am not saying to spend for the sake of spending but at least act like a big market team. It makes me sick that we will be CUTTING payroll next year.

The Knicks and Jets ARE worse on the whole. I've at least seen a Mets WS win and three WS appearances in my lifetime, both numbers are squadoosh for the Jets. The Knicks have been to two Finals since 1973 but their post-2000 futility with their payroll is especially mind boggling.

Now if you want to argue whether Woody is a better owner than the Wilpons that's fine. Woody is clueless but at least comes off like he cares. Dolan might be another story. He spends sure but spends in all the wrong places and they've had 15 years of the off court drama and controversy the Mets had this year.

I'm sorry, if the Jets or Knicks could operate under the current CBA the MLB has versus their own leagues, both would be perennial contenders. In fact, the Knicks would probably have an All Star team if they were free of the cap and players could move freely.

Look at the Mets situation. It couldn't be any clearer. Their crosstown rival invests heavily in scouting and development, as well as in top major league talent to supplement the wholes their farm has. They ARE perennial winners.

I think JoeB put it best when he said of this group:
the Mets are a disgrace;
the Jets a disaster;
and the Knicks dysfunctional.

The Rangers are at the top of the class at merely a disappointment. :lol:
