You can tell that the FO is into punking people at this stage by leaking mixed signals and misdirection. They just don't want the public to know what they are really doing or thinking. It was probably Callaway all along.

What do you mean "punking people"? How about they keep it close to the vest so other teams don't know what they're doing. I hear the Phillies really liked Callaway.

Yes, I mean, purposely leaking misinformation (they 'really like Long,' and 'Long is considered the favorite' etc.) so that many don't know what they are really doing... which is to say that many things the beat writers jump out with often can't be taken too seriously IMO.

That we can agree on lol

Is it punking beat writers or is it throwing out balloons trying to suss out who's leaking stuff internally? If it's the former that's a bit petty imo, if you want nothing to leak out don't leak to the press to start with! If it's the latter it'd be a lot more understandable, especially after the whole Terry smear debacle last month. They certainly didn't shut off leaks then.

I just think they want to be able to control the leaks, that is, to control the information they want out and what they don't want out. In the past and also early in this current regime, they appeared to be less in control of the leaks than they appear to be now. Again, all of which boils down to don't fully trust the info that the beats disseminate.

Worth noting, Callaway and Wakamatsu have crossed paths before. Wakamatsu the bench coach in Texas while Callaway played there.

I think this pretty much sums up my feelings and many others as well.

I'd go with Wakamatsu bench coach, Ruben Niebla PC (instrumental in Kluber's development)

"Ruben Niebla, the Indians minor league pitching coordinator, has also been approached about a big-league coaching job from another team. Niebla has been with the Indians for the last 17 years and has worked with a lot of pitchers on the current big-league staff."

(note this is before the Mets hired Callaway, the implication is NOT he's been offered the Mets job, doesn't mean he can't/won't be)

Making no judgments on Wakamatsu, he's been coaching in the AL for the past 10+ seasons. In the end, the FO and/or Callaway may not consider that a bit, but I would think it deserves some consideration. Knowing the players in the NL should matter IMO.

But how many NL coaches/managers figure to have much experience coaching/knowing Callaway? Wakamatsu 1. MLB managerial experience 2. Extensive MLB coaching experience 3. Has been a bench coach 4. Experience with Callaway 5. The Mets interviewed him for TC's job the first time around and have long been rumored to be enamored with him. They hired Kevin Long from the AL despite his lack of NL pitchers knowledge and their list of interviewees/guys they wanted included Acta (hasn't been in the NL since 2009), Cora (last was in the NL as a player 6 years ago), Ausmus (last in the NL as a player 7 years ago), Robin Ventura etc etc. If anything it seems as if they put little/no value in "NL" vs. AL if you look at the names they interviewed or wanted to.

I guess in theory Sherlock could also be shifted to BC. 20 MLB seasons as a coach, 2003 bench coach with Arizona.

He would be the first guess since they retained him, but I guess they'll want MC's input for bc.

I'm fine with this. To be honest, I would have been ok with whomever they felt might be best to lead the team on the field.
