Becerra may have another year. He was a 2011 signee like the others were 2011 draftees, but he doesn't debut until 2012, so unsure when his clock starts. But I think he's gone too.

I don’t think Evans Taijeron Pill are eligible till the World Series is over so they will likely join Goeddel at that time.

I thought they could not refuse being outrighted the first time.

And thus Goeddel chose free agency. Pill could've refused by apparently accepted the assignment.

They can't refuse, but they will be eligible for milb FA shortly, just as they would've been had they never been on the 40 man in the first place. They will declare when WS is over. They each have the requisite service time (Goeddel had an extra year and therefore was eligible as soon as the season was over, like Edgin).

Right, sorry, didn't mean immediately - they still have another 3 games worth of control for the Metski's.

New York Mets ✔ @Mets
We outrighted Wuilmer Becerra, Tyler Pill, Travis Taijeron, Erik Goeddel and Phil Evans off of our 40-man roster.

I said it in the other thread but Evans surprised me.

So the 40 is down to 35 now. After the 3 60s that have to be added back, it'll be 38. And then non tenders for Milone and Aoki plus Reyes being a FA will send it back down to 35. Could see them DFA Monty also. Even without that, that's room for 5 players to protect.

If we sign no free agents. Gotta think we'll nab a starter and a backup outfielder minimum. Probably a reliever or infielder too.

Maybe Guillorme and Bashlor are the only guys who are going to get protected.

So they kept Bradford, Smoker and McGowan. Having options is everything if you're a fringe relief pitcher it seems.

I'm guessing the Milone/Aoki arb decisions aren't made yet. I have a tough time seeing them keep Milone.

Right move on Evans. Yes he hit .300 but with no power and a .400 babip. I think the roster space is more valuable than carrying another infielder. Right move on Becerra too. He's such a long shot at this point.

Pill and Taijeron were kinda given. Goeddel is out of options but I'm sure he'll sign a minor league deal somewhere and could see majors in 2018. Maybe he'll join his brother in Louisville/Cinci.

I just want to say - Matt Reynolds. I said they wouldn't cut him. Being able to play SS is something the mets value. Only a handful of guys on the roster can. Rosario, Reynolds & Guillorme (assuming he's added).

Assuming this is just a procedural move.

Seeing that they are just about the only two that could contribute to the big league team at some point next year, I think that is probably accurate. Uceta is too far away and Bautista is further out. Oswalt is the only other question mark.

I'm much more interested in who they are creating the space for. None of the released are particularly valuable.

The great Tommy Milone for some reason gets to stay. Is there a minimum that you have to keep on the 40 man before you add or something that I don't know about? Matt Reynolds gets to stay too? Wowza
