According to Cleveland reporter Paul Hoynes, Mets manager Mickey Callaway has reached out to Jason Bere, who had been bullpen coach the last three seasons with the Indians when Callaway was their pitching coach.

Supposedly it's Kapler to manage the Phils. Has he managed or coached anywhere? I still find that an interesting choice.

I have no clue who would be on the Yankees list. But seems like youth is the trend.

Yeah, he managed the Red Sox Sally League affiliate in 2007 during a pause to his playing career.

And, impressed so much, that he's been a hot manager candidate for 10 years since (despite no further coaching experience).

Whatever he is as a manager, there is no denying he is an excellent marketer.

This is where I bet we land on this.

Wonder if there could be any advantage to enticing, say, Bryan Shaw here if we staff Callaway AND Bere.

Yup. And Shaw would be one of the arms they should be targeting.

Interesting. I assume if he reached out the FO is open to it...?

JDawg, sounds like you are starting the whispers of Callaway acting out of sync with the FO.

(or maybe I just started them)

Either way, sounds like trouble in paradise. Quick - smear Mickey!!!

After getting passed over for the Mets’ managerial opening, hitting coach Kevin Long is not expected to rejoin the organization next season, a source told Newsday on Tuesday.

Goodwin appears gone too, per Puma.

Think this is the right way to do it. Callaway probably doesn't have as many "preferred" options as a retread might, but let the new guy evaluate and decide who to keep rather than push preferred organizational men on him.

Of course I say this and watch the coaching staff be filled out with Tuefel, Ron Romanick, etc.

Well, there's prob some sort of compromise involved here. It looks like he'll inherit Sherlock for one and Teufel always seems to be part of the deal here in some capacity. Maybe they'll allow him to fill out the rest of the staff. Have to believe PC will be all his and I'm guessing Jason Bere is his 1st choice. Bench could be anyone... I'll guess Sherlock as BC. That's continuity to the roster and no threat to Callaway. Bogar for 3B? Tefuel 1B? Just spitballing.

Do we know yet if it's as "THEE" hitting coach or still assistant?

It's being reported as if he's remaining in his role but I don't know if that is a fact or an opinion.
