It always makes sense to let Dusty Baker walk.

Unless I'm mistaken, they're not losing anyone. And I don't think they're re-hiring Matt Williams. So I'm not sure why anyone would be expecting them to be worse next year.

They'll also have Eaton back, which presumably cuts into 1 of the 2 real trouble spots for them: Jayson Werth's playing time (Matt Wieters being the other).

Hate that guy. Major d-bag to me and my students who were guests to throw out the first pitch a spring training game.

I agree. Losing Baker is probably a good thing for them which makes them less of a train wreck imho.

They're still going to win 95+ games next year.

Better farm than us.

More money to spend than us.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

Who isn't a trainwreck at this point?

Nats - manager instability/lowballing, one year away from possibly blowing up
Mets - too many bad cooks in the kitchen, medical team still stinks
Braves - their GM resigned for cheating and their top prospect had a horrible year
Marlins - Jeter who never had a PR snafu as a player all of a sudden has had a bunch of them already in five minutes as an owner, needs to trade Giancarlo after hitting 60 HR's.
Phillies - dumped a manager five months after giving him an extension, was the worst team in a bad division

I don't think these things are equal.

Mets are coming off 70 wins and have a bottom 5 system in baseball and a likely payroll cut coming.

Marlins are going to dump their functional players.

Nats...fired Dusty Baker, a manager most "smart" fans made fun of them for hiring in the first place.

Yeah....

Good synopsis. Phils look maybe a year away from going on a run of their own. I don't think Nats are going away tho. Robles is a top ten prospect and they still have Eaton coming back plus Scherzer & Stras aren't going anywhere. And they now have a bullpen.

Nats won't suffer any until after next season when they might lose both Harper and Murphy,

Phillies have loads of both prospects and money. They'll be a force, and shortly.

Braves have a really strong farm, even after an MLB wrist slap.

The Marlins will never get out of their own way.

Mets have no farm help coming. It's trades and free agency. Shouldn't take a herculean effort to be good. Let's see it.
