They'll win their 95 and get knocked out of the playoffs early again. At a certain point that's failure.

If the Mets were that team, Met fans would not be praising their regular season abilities.

Heck people act like we're a perennial joke now when we JUST got to the World Series two freaking years ago, and the playoffs last year.

This is my Brian Cashman argument, which got me laughed off another thread.

Cashman has rings. Nats have none. Mets have none since Cashman’s been around

No, no it's the Mets.

Well, he walked into 4. Thanks, Stick and Bob. What he's accomplished since with virtually unlimited resources is underwhelming.

We think of the mets as bad, but they do have a core.

Thor, deGrom at the top of the rotation.
Conforto, Cespedes (if he'd stay healthy), and young unknowns, Dom & Rosario. That could be a core to build around.

They stunk this year cause they were epically bad in pitching after deGrom. The team combined had a 5.4 WAR - all their pitchers. They were about average hitting and bad fielding, but it was the pitching that killed them. 29th out of 30.

Take away deGrom, Reed & Bleven's combined 7.7, the rest of their pitchers combined for a -2.3 war. If they fix that, either by better health or a free agent signing, then they have a shot.

I still think, right now, today, they're still a joke, but they're a joke with a punchers chance at being respectible next year.

And the Dodgers have loads of cash and haven't won.

If people get blame for losing under their watch then they should get credit for winning. It's not like he sat and did nothing. And he turned around the current Yanks pretty quickly.

If you had to choose a GM between Cashman and Alderson who would you choose? Just curious...

Neither of them would get an interview.

That's an interesting question. To me they're pretty close. Both have had their moments. I'd go Alderson by a hair.

Before 2016 it probably would have been Sandy, but Cashman's done such a masterful job putting this current group of young talent together that can't be ignored. Sandy hasn't had a team like that since the late '80's A's.
