I know, I'm silly, but thoughts?

C: d'Arnaud/Plau/Nido and maybe Mazeika gets a September cameo.
1B: Dom a year older, might be improved over 2018 Dom
2B: who knows
SS: The Prince of Flushing, also a year older and hopefully improved.
3B: who knows.
LF: Cespedes
CF: Conforto
RF: who knows

Guys who could fill spots: Wilmer, TJ, Cecchini, Guillorme, David Thompson, Nimmo maybe Kaz, Uceta . . . not a whole lot there I think. Maybe some 2nd division starters and role players.

Rotation:

Thor, deGrom, Wheeler, Matz, Gsellman, Lugo, Peterson? Oswalt, Molina, Flexen???

Bullpen

The guys we have now, the 5 or 6 guys we traded for this year, plus Uceta, Bashlor, and a few picks here or there from Vegas/Bing I suppose.

Who closes?

Lost to free agency:

Harvey, Familia, Ramos, Blevins, AsCab, Aoki . . . (so, figure 3-4 for Aokie, 5-6 for harvey, 8, 9, 6.5, 8.5 for the others . . 41 million off the books, Wright drops from 20 to 15 but Lagares bumps up 2.5 - so about 43 million saved.

Arbs: deGrom - arb 3, Thor - arb 2, Conforto - arb 1 . . . there should be 15-20 to spend I think, not great but something.

2019 looks a lot like 2018, minus the top 3 guys from our bullpen, but with Dom and Rosario a year more experienced. A few more names in the mix but not many top guys. Anyone up for spinning this into a positive?

Should I stop making posts like this? I think it's fun to think about the future. I like looking at future rosters.

Bryce Harper in RF.

Manny Machado at 3B.

Fred has been squirreling away money.

That would address a number of my concerns.

Conforto hits leadoff?
Cespedes 2nd
Harper 3rd
Machado 4th (switch 2 and 4 if you like)
Wilmer 5th
Dom 6th (switch 5 and 6 if Dom starts hitting)
Rosario 7th
Catcher 8th.

3 lefties, 5 righties. That's a nice lineup.

Pitching and bullpen are still question-marks though.

A lot can happen between now and ST 2019. I will be in a slightly better position to have a feeling for 2019 in February of '18.

I will say there is an outside chance Tyler Bashlor makes the 2018 team and is groomed for closer in 2019, There is no way Familia is back after next year as his best days may be behind him (I know I am going out on a limb saying this but I really feel over-usage will rear its ugly head next season).

A lot happened between 2015 - can't imagine what will happen between 2017 and 2019.

It'll be interesting to see how long it takes Bashlor to make the 25 man roster in 2018. Him being closer in 2019 is a little wonkers though, but what other options do they have? Free agency? I wonder if Molina will see some bullpen time in 2018 too.

The 2nd baseman they pick up this year should be there for 2019 too. (Walker?, Gordon?, Kendrick?), so it's mostly just replacing Aoki & Ascab. The lineup should be fine in 2019, maybe better in 2019 than 2018.

The starting pitching, I don't think the loss of Harvey will hurt us much. But the Pen is an interesting problem.

We should have all kinds of young talent after a couple years of tanking

I wonder if the 2019 FA class might make for some depressed contracts this year.

I would imagine the big spenders are licking their chops for the big guys next year.

Conversely, we should basically be in line to make ALL OF THE TRADES for ALL OF THE BIG BATS given the market and accumulated assets.

C: Buster Posey
1B: Paul Goldschmidt
2B: Daniel Murphy
SS: Amed Rosario
3B: Manny Machado
RF: Bryce Harper
CF: Michael Conforto
LF: Yoenis Cespedes

Costs us Matt Blackham, Matt Probyeko, Ty Bashlor, Adonis Uceta, Kyle Regnault, Rusty Ryder, and yes, Gershon Bautista (we caved and gave him up for Harper).

Boom.

Ridiculous.

Who closes when you trade Adonis Uceta?
