Pirates sign Siegrist, Reds sign Ollie.

We’re really going with PJ Conlon huh?

See what we wind up trading for one of these minor league invite guys in July:

I think it implies that they'll be focusing in what may come available later in Spring... who gets caught in a numbers crunch... Dan Jennings, Adam Liberatore, etc.

I don't see the hangup on LH specialists. How about some RH (or LH) pitchers that can get both LH and RH hitters out? The game needs to move on from these specialists. Give it another decade and it'll be the next progressive movement in pitching/roster management.

I think you have it backwards. It's the analytics that have shown that certain LHed pitchers are very difficult for LHed hitters to hit. Iow, teams aren't searching for LHed pitchers without any justification.

They did pick up two lefties at the end of spring a few years back, so it's not unprecedented.

I guess. I still don’t think they’ve made a waiver claim since Jeremy Hefner.

Also if they really trade anything remotely useful for a guy getting cut at the end of ST when they could’ve easily signed one for free- yeah I just don’t see that.

The idea of not carrying a lefty for a lefty sake is fine but you know they will. They’ve done that basically every year. Remember John Lannan:The Reliever? Scott Rice? Rob Carson? The willful ignorance of Alex Torres’ splits? Aaron Laffey? The ghost of Pedro Feliciano? The fact that we carried Josh Edgin last year afraid of letting him hit waivers?

They love to talk a big game in bullpen makeup but when push comes to shove they’ll go back to traditional bullpen composition so no idea why were willfully putting ourselves in a situation where you have minimal options and or need to make a trade.

I guess Robbie Ross is still out there.

Who are our 40-man lefty options now after Blevins?

I would assume that Ross's availability probably means that he's somewhat damaged.

None?

Only he and Matz are lefty on 40 man.

Assuming all 6 SP are healthy at the end of March, do you think Vargas is used out of the pen until one of deGrom, Thor, Harvey, Matz, Wheeler eventually goes down?
