I like Miley in the pen. Solid same side numbers and can obviously spot start if needed.

I wonder if they try for Liriano since he can start and work out of the pen.

But he can't really do either with any level of effectiveness...

Its been a wild career arc for him so maybe he's got one last rebound left, but like Ubaldo, just seems like those cats ran out of lives.

Right, but I'm thinking Mets front office mindset, not the right move.

The $/WAR flag is silly and gets you nothing.

only if WAR is Silly or teams don't have a budget

The $/WAR flag is silly and gets you nothing. Frazier was a solid signing because he improved the Mets, period, not because he improved our win-per-dollar efficiency. That'd only be useful in a capped scenario.

OTOH, given non-elite relievers can usually be counted on to give you about a win of value, was Swarzak a bad signing?

Considering the Mets clearly operate with a budget, the money portion is relevant. Especially since it's a 2 year deal and so it will affect next year's budget as well.

I imagine several players on this list will end up signing 1-year deals. The Mets should try to sign two of them.

Reyes last year was worth 2 fWAR and got $2m. Is Reyes a better signing than Frazier?

Thats my point.

Frazier is a good signing because he fills a need and improves our team, and maybe leaves you enough cash to do something else. But his WAR efficiency is a silly point to make. We know he signed an undermarket deal. Lots of guys will. We almost certainly would've even been able to be more efficient on a $/WAR level if we went with Reyes/Flores on the infield this year over Frazier/Cabrera.

And we've heard from many different sources and angles that the budget is flexible. So no - I don't get excited about buy "efficient wins". I get excited about adding wins. Period.

I know that it's popular around these parts to say the Mets haven't done enough this off-season, but considering their financial restraints, they've done more to address their weaknesses than most teams this winter. And they have yet to forfeit a draft pick, which should be appreciated around these parts.

They didn't do anything sexy, but they have a solid bullpen, a high upside rotation, and a lineup filled with solid bats. Defense won't be amazing in 2018, but it looks like they have a passable fielder at every position.

Also, the Mets have real depth at the Major League level in 2018. This roster can still put out a major league lineup even with a couple of injuries.

Arrieta would cost the Mets #46 pick
