Jaime Garcia really would be a nice fit. Agree with everyone saying they ought to go after him, rather than Vargas.

It might just be dumb luck, but I challenge anyone to name a team that signed as many WAR as these players gave, in the 2010s. All three were minor league or 40 man roster pickups:

RA Dickey
Marlon Byrd
Justin Turner (granted they let him walk before he became a stud)

I'm not sure but didn't they trade with the Orioles to get Turner?

Maybe just a benign observation, but given this spans 2 separate front offices with VERY different philosophies (and really, 3 different if you note that the only reason the Mets claimed Turner was because Wayne Krivsky was an ass't GM at the time and was purportedly always a big JT advocate), not sure this means anything - not like there's a consistent philosophy being employed here.

As far as the overall point, I'd have to find 2 others but Detroit with JD Martinez has to be a contender.

That's a tough one. There has been no chatter on Arrieta at all. I think the Twins miss out on Darvish and then go after Arrieta. I'm guessing 4 years at 80 million but the way the market is going this year.....who knows? I think because of his poor showing early in his career at Baltimore, the AL East teams will stay away.

Certainly sounds like a bottom-market/NRI type is all we're really looking at pitching wise. I wouldn't hold out for the Lynn/Cobb or even Garcia types:

About this, I'm with him. Miley, JDLR, Liriano, Norris. I could see a good case, for this type.

Matt Reynolds is going to be DFA'd for Frazier.

Bud Norris is purportedly one of the real bad guys in the game.

That plus being thoroughly mediocre makes me say he’s not coming here.

Is this a prediction or backed up by a report? Cause it's hard to tell the way you wrote it.
