I continue to be impressed with Callaway and his approach to coaching/managing. I have coached football for over 20 years and his style and approach sounds so similar to the changes I have had to make over the years to work with the new generations.
I, for one am excited for the new season regardless of who we end up getting. I truly feel that Callaway will not only get the most out of the players he is given, he will make them better.

I liked the hiring.

I hope he and Sandy seriously don't think they're going to reinvent baseball.

I seriously hope that Sandy gets the whole baseball GM gig by now.

I mentioned in one of the other threads that he certainly didn't seem married to the "starting pitcher twice thru the lineup," rumors we have been hearing. If anything sounds like he believes in starting pitchers increasing their innings total, not reducing them.

Indians were 3rd in the majors in SP innings. This isn't some "Callaway philosophy" he's bringing with him.

So he was the pitching coach for the team that you're saying was 3rd in the majors in SP innings but it's not his philosophy? You lost me.

I'm saying going to the bullpen early is not something Callaway is bringing with him. If thats the route they're headed, its independent of Callaway's philosophies - or at least what Callaway did with his pitching staffs in Cleveland.

Well yeah it's kinda what I was saying. Which is why I think the going to the pen after two turns in the rotation was dare I say it..."Fake News!" :)

Yeah, I wouldn't say that, given Sandy emphasized it in his press meetings yesterday.

Plus there is literally the lead article on METS.COM right now that says "Mets may have starters go short in 2018" that quotes Sandy.

All I was saying is its independent of whatever Callaway thinks. Its clearly coming from above.

Well I guess we'll find out early what kind of say Callaway will have as a manager. And Sandy should be focusing on the BP because it's generally lousy. Not because of some ridiculous new wave scheme.

Both WS teams hurt themselves by going to the pen because of that philosophy. Highest scoring WS by far doesn't say much for that.

Deep starting pitching has more of an impact in keeping pen arms fresh and dominant.

Not to mention the stats regarding third time through the order vary by pitcher. You can't apply a strategy that only makes sense for 2/5 of your rotation.
