I think Cheech is as good as gone. That will free up a spot.

I think they see Guillorme and Reynolds differently. I do think Cecchini is a candidate to be sold or traded for something de minimis this offseason, as I think there's more overlap there in a light hitting backup MIF role. For some reason they think Reynolds is this super utility Joe McEwing type.

Guillorme gets added because he's got a major league skill. Its why Tomas Nido is on the 40 man roster. Its one of these things that everyone carries a defensive backup MIF, and everyone carries a backup C (duh) so while these guys are cheap they can be useful to a roster.

Well, the fascination with Reynolds aside, they're going to run up against a numbers crunch when they get to the point of adding a 2Bman &/or a 3Bman, at which point carrying all of Wright, Rosario, ACab, TJR, Flores, Reynolds, Guilorme, Cheech, new IFer 1, new IFer 2 just isn't going to fit all on the 40. They will need to thin the herd at that point with prob Cheech and Reynolds leading the thinning.

And even as TJR and Wright eventually get moved back to the 60, that prob opens a spot for Evans to get re-added but that won't be until April.

And none of this even accounts for the possible [inane] re-signing of one Joseph Kings.

Woo-hooo!!!!

Lets battle to the death on which mediocre prospect we may or may not protect and have a slim chance of potentially losing while they might be the last man on a bench of 7th man in a bullpen!!!!

Right now, 40 man roster is at 35.

I'll predict we take 6 - I know, whoa crazy crazy. (Guillorme, Bashlor, Uceta, Bautista, Jannis, Oswalt).

I've got us dropping Kevin McGowan to fit the extra man. And then I expect we'll see some sales/non tenders of pre-arb guys in the weeks ahead to fit future signings (Reynolds, Bradford, Robles, Sewald, Cecchini all look vulnerable).

I tend to agree almost entirely. Jannis is a tough one. The cost for another team giving him a chance is zilch but if he turns out to be even a poor man's RA Dickey, it could be costly to us, a team that really is so uncertain of its starting pitching. I could almost guarantee that if we don't protect Oswalt, he will be a goner. Keeping Jannis and Oswalt, while paring off McGowan and Robles is a 100% non-brainer.

I think Jannis sneaks on due to complete lack of healthy SP depth in the upper minors (and with Matz and Lugo amounting to essentially "ticking time bombs") and the likelihood (in my eyes) of Montero being a DFA casualty at some point before Opening Day. Sandy has walked back talk of a veteran SP signing, so the starting depth chart looks like:

Noah
deGrom
Wheeler (off injury)
Lugo (partially torn UCL)
Harvey (who knows)
Matz (off surgery)
Gsellman (woof)
Montero (think he's gone)
Flexen (my guess is they don't want to see him in MLB this year)

Yikes.

Jannis had a dominant second half and a great AFL, which usually leads to protection. We'll see.

Jannis is easy to forecast being seen at Citifield at some point in 2018 but at the same time he's prob safe from being poached. Or well, I guess the last time a 30+ yo knuckleballer was taken in the rule 5 draft was RA Dickey in 2007, so once every 10 years..?

The Mets have never recovered from losing Jesus Flores.

Same writer said Luis Carpio (no way) and Wiulmer Becerra which....would be quite a series of events.

In other words, I doubt this guy.

This guy appears to be assuming anyone eligible and listed on MLB Pipeline Top 30 is being added, as he just reported Mets full list of adds is:

Quote:
Hely D. Rodríguez @HelyDanielRod
Replying to @sschreiber13
11. Luis Guillorme, SS
12. Wuilmer Becerra, OF
15. Jhoan Urena, 3B
17. Luis Carpio, SS
20. Ali Sanchez, C
27. Corey Oswalt, RHP
30. Gerson Bautista, RHP

They are add

1. They're not adding 7 guys.
2. They're not adding THOSE 7 guys.
