Rookie maximums for at-bats (130), games pitched (30) or innings (50) in the major leagues"

If the 2 leaders are within 5% of each other, or the leader has less than 35% there will be a run-off between the top 2. If a run-off results in a tie the tiebreaker will be vote total in the previous poll, we will continue to "go back" in the polls until there is a clear leader.
*Rosario ineligible
*Dom ineligible

P.S. don't stress too much if you feel player X deserves to be on this list vs. player Y. It's extremely unlikely someone not yet nominated would be win any given poll. Nominate those you see fit.
** Executive decision, pulled the plug early on #7. By having the polls begin in the morning it allows for a more lively discussion. Lindsay was running away with the vote. Same with #10. Poll #11 will only have 9 options, I accidently had Kay listed a second time (copy and paste, sue me lol)

1) Andres Gimenez (SS) 12/27 votes-44%

4) Peter Alonso (1B) 21/28 votes-75%
5) Thomas Szapucki (LHP) 10/22-45%
6) Justin Dunn (RHP) 4/20-20%, runoff with Lindsay/Guillorme/Kay 9/22-41%
7) Desmond Lindsay (OF) 12/26-46%
8) Luis Guillorme (SS) 8/25-32%, run-off with Kay 11/22-50%, advances due to more votes in previous poll
9) Anthony Kay (LHP) 9/24-38%, run-off with Bashlor 10/20-50%, advances due to more votes in previous poll
10) Tyler Bashlor (RHP) 11/16-69%

Not a nominee, but do we like Ryder Ryan or too soon?

I won't make a nominee till next time. Voted Hernandez, cause I like the upside. (mets reportedly talked him up).

Seems like shiny new toy syndrome to me. I mean Matt Blackham had excellent reports stuff wise + 13.0 K/9, 0.98 whip, 1.43 era. I mean I understand Ryan is new to pitching but Blackham's numbers (for example) were flat out superior. In fact, Blackham career 12.6 K/9, 2.12 era over 57 appearances. He got hurt so he's older but I actually think he's a prime candidate for a smart team to snipe. Bashlor is my A #1 RP prospect in the system but I'm not convinced Blackham is a significantly worse prospect than any of the other guys we traded for (maybe Bautista given his extreme velocity). In fact, given my "impassioned" plea, I'm going to nominate Matt Blackham.

Crismatt was not a Milb FA despite indications he might be.

Boyd, Becerra, Crismatt, Mora, Urena are FA after 2018

Ryder Ryan would be someone no one would know BUT FOR he was the return in a trade.

Had he been a typical 23rd round pick in one of our drafts or a UDFA pickup he wouldn't be any different than Adam Atkins or Joe Zanghi or Darin Yanowsky (ok, 1 of those is not actually a pitcher in our system).

Ryan was a 30th round pick, but a few write-ups suggested he was an unusual 30th round pick. This was his first full season. His first 2 months were great, then he had 2 lousy months, then he finished up OK with the mets. If Metro wants to rank Blackham over Ryan - I'm 100% OK with that. I'm kinda guessing anyway. But Ryan put up some really sexy numbers over the first 2 months. His first 23 innings, 11 hits, 31 Ks.

Ryan could go either way but his upside should make him a lock for the top 50. Zhangi has some velocity too, he should probably be a top 50 guy as well. Atkins is a slower thrower. I'm not sure I buy it.

Fair enough.

Just a reminder, bygranddesign nominated Brody a while back.

I'll hold off on making any nominees for 2 rounds then, and with Ryder, I really just wanted to feel him out. Seems I like him more than most. I have him ahead of Blackham.

Do you really think Blackham might get taken this rule 5? There's an absolute ton of RHPs left unprotected. I only went through the first 11-12 teams or so, but there's a boatload of RHPs there for the taking. I think Uceta has a good chance of being safe, but maybe he gets snagged. I think Jannis is safe.

I don't honestly believe Blackham will be sniped. Rather, I think he's one of the guys who isn't on the "best rule 5 talents" lists who would be a guy who in theory could surprisingly help a big league team (or a bad big league team). Blackham very easily could have ended 2017 in AA and nobody here would have been "blown away" so I think both his age/level are overstated.

Skyler Kanfer really likes Blackham. 94-95, has touched 97 with "plenty of sink", CU that "could be solid". Also sprinkles in a 4 seamer.

Very cool stuff. Is that from Twitter or BA subscription or fangraphs subscription. Google is becoming almost useless to get updates on prospects.

Ryan got some good writeups though and he was a minor league all-star this year. This article says touches 97, works 94-95 with an easy motion. Secondary's need work.

I commented on Blackham a few months back and Jeff P noted he was a favorite of Kanfer's who chimed in with those notes. This isn't really about Ryan vs. Blackham other than the fact one has been a dominant pitcher and the other doesn't have any such track record. Given Blackham's season he could have skipped A+ and nobody on here really would have said much. Suddenly he opens 2018 in AA and he's viewed differently. Blackham's post draft report had him sitting low 90's so it's not exactly wild to see him throwing 94-95.

Post draft-
"Blackham wants to start, but given his size, command issues, and a lack of stamina suggest it might be a fantasy.

That said, Blackham throws harder than you might think. In short stints, he’ll sit in the low 90s with some arm-side run, and he throws a spike curve, a pitch you rarely see in the college ranks. It has a lot of depth to it, but it’s extremely difficult to command, and once hitters learn to lay off the pitch, it’s up to the pitcher to prove he can throw it for strikes. And Mike Mussinas are few and far between. "
