Cough, cough... Mariners insider nails it again

I was kinda hoping the M's would get it done after all the wrangling they've been doing. But this will be good for parity purposes.

What the heck does Seattle do now? Using all that money to get top international prospects is not going to appease the fanbase and I don't see how Gordon in CF does anything either.

Mariners/Angels would have been the same thing for parity purposes imo, both average teams where Otani can turn them into a playoff contender. The Angels getting him and Maitan in the same offseason, there’s some pixie dust in the water there.

Could you specify rumor or opinion? I thought this had actually happened from the wording but it’s not on Twitter.

I can't believe the Angels have to pay Pujols nearly $30m/yr for four more years.

I don't mind the Angels getting him. I'd prefer that to the Padres for example (and way way way way prefer it to the Dodgers).

Seems an odd choice, but it doesn't bother me if the Angels put together a few 90 win seasons.

That's nothing. The Tigers have Miggy for 6 more years at $30M + 2 vesting yrs after that! He could be a Tiger thru 2025.

That's why I don't like Stanton for his current contract. Sure he'll be good for half of it, but all of it? Probably not.

Well, he's obviously a big dude like the other 2 but he's far more athletic and mobile than Pujols or Miggy ever were (he's an OFer). I would expect him to age better than either of them have. But you accept that you're going to lose on the back end of a long term deal. You hope not to lose as bad as the Tigers and Halos are going to lose. That Pujols deal and Miggy extension were both obvious horrible deals the moment they were signed.

And of course, the Stanton deal goes thru his age 37 season while the Pujols deal runs till he's 41 and Miggy's till 40 (assuming the last 2 yrs dont vest) so that's a big difference.

How many FA's are good for their whole contract? If you're trading for Stanton you're more or less getting him at UFA cost this offseason anyway, it's not like it's some tremendous overpay.

Besides Pujols is 38 now, his contract ends when he's 42. Cabrera's contract ends at 41 or 42. Stanton's contract ends at 37 presuming he does not use the opt-out. That's not terrible, especially if he goes to an AL team.

I hate long contracts, but you have to get something off the front end to justify it.

Heyward was a terrible signing, but the Cubs have at least 1 Ring in the bank.

Yeah im sure they couldn't have won without the .104 postseason .631 OPS regular season hitting Jason Heyward
