Why is it hysterical for a Met fan to have envy of the way the Yanks do things?

Same market but a hysterically different appetite for spending, an unfairly better front office, and a commitment to winning - not spend efficiency or Misguided “process.”

They came within a game of the WS in a Supposed “building” year, talked about getting payroll lower- then get an opportunity to acquire a star at below market cost and immediately jump.

Mets go 72-90 and we’re gonna fix it by hiring a new strength coach and sign a 3rd tier reliever. And if we have time, maybe Adam Lind.

I object to Sandy waiting out markets until they evaporate...
I object to a lack of creativity. I object to market efficiencies moving quicker than SandyCo keeps up...
I object to having no pool of available liberal minded women in South Carolina...

The Yankees aren't even in my world honestly. Anyone that goes there improves our chances in the NL.

I'm very confused at this 'Long Suffering Met Fan' thing.

We were doing quite well until our rotation exploded.

Show me a Mets fan who doesn't hate and envy the Yankees and I'll show you a dispassionate "it's just a game" inconsequential loser.

I wish the Wilpons were filled with the same hate and envy that the Steinbrenners, that Belichick, that Bobby Clarke had

You couldn’t be more wrong about my fandom.

The Dodgers haven't won the World Series since 1988, and we've played in more since.

That's one thing people don't seem to understand. The more the Yanks acquire superstars the more fans they get, the more money they get, which leads to them acquiring more superstars and getting more fans. At some point the Mets are going to have to spend to keep up, or just move the franchise out of NYC.

And I really can't people are okay with the Mets acquiring Walker, Kinsler or Kipnis. Those guys are either old, injury prone or both. The Mets are hoping to get them cheaply because they are flawed and then they will act like "injuries are part of the game" when these guys inevitably decline or do on the DL again.

Here's what drives me nuts: the Yankees win 91 games, wind up a game shy of a World Series (that they probably would have won, by the way), and land Giancarlo Stanton.

The Mets win 70 games, come out and TELL YOU the payroll is going down (but ticket prices are going up). Then, as Yankee fans are enjoying their Saturday morning spoils, I have to go on Twitter and see the Mets are "kicking the tires" on Adam Lind, and "want to explore a possible trade" for Josh Harrison, and have Jose Reyes "in their back pocket" if they don't want to make a trade. Rotation depth? Don't need it. Bullpen? We're admitting it's more important than we thought, but we're still wary of contracts.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. And the Mets' offseason plan hasn't changed in at least five years. And it NEVER works. Even in 2015, things were about to go off the rails until Alderson acquired 20% of our postseason roster at/after the trade deadline. This is the same organization that, until Cespedes virtually forced his way back here, that was going to replace him with Alejandro de Aza.

Sorry, it's a joke.

That's the whole truth and nothing BUT the TRUTH!

I may only have a couple years left on this earth and I wish the Mets could bring some smiles.....

Forget what the Yankees are doing. Our front office watched a flawed team all season and still doesn’t have a plan. It’s a bunch of maybe we could do this and let’s see how the market shapes up for that. How about targeting specific players? How about prioritizing guys at a specific position? They don’t even operate like a small market team. They are shopping at the clearance rack at Walmart hoping to find useful items.

Thought the plan was

OF/1B
RP (1 or 2)
2B

?

That’s not a plan. That’s a shopping list. A plan is the steps you are going to take to get everything on the list. What theyre doing right now is the baseball equivalent of randomly walking around the mall with $20 in your pocket hoping you can find a present for someone.

As I mentioned earlier this offseason, only 1 team wins at the end. If you measure every season by that team is the only team that was worth anything, then sure, you have these weird theories floating around that since the only NY team to make it to a WS in the 2010's is the Mets, the Mets have had a better decade.

But we all know thats nonsense.

The Yankees have been to the playoffs in 21/23 years. In the 2 years they missed, they were at least in a race in September. They are relevant every offseason, seeking to aggressively address whatever issues they have to ensure whatever result they had the previous year, they improve.

The Mets go through a 1-2 year stretch of contention every decade. When things go south, they decide a years-long process is required to reset. When things go right, its short-lived because they'll never spent to supplement the competitive core, and success is fleeting.

I don't care what the total WS tallies are. There is literally no competition here as far as fan entertainment is concerned.

The hilarious thing is Sandy repeats this "baseball is entertainment" mantra often, but is ironically one of the least entertaining executives in the game as far as the approach he leads.

Not sure why this board is so (annoyingly) single-minded, particularly given the small set of long-time participants but hope you get your smiles (and that you're doing ok) and that JDawg meets his liberal-minded woman in the local Piggly Wiggly.
