Smith (23), Flores (26), Rosario (22), Conforto (25), Cecchini (24), Nimmo (25), Syndergaard (25), Gsellman (24).

Is that enough long controllable "talent"? If it's not, they need to make some trades because nobody else is close outside of the slew of relievers acquired or added to the 40 man roster recently.

Regarding Gonzalez I'll just quote Keith Law:

doesn’t get any more #lolmets than this

Adrian Gonzalez is 35, can barely move or hit, and was worth a win BELOW replacement level. He's not an asset in the clubhouse. And the Mets have a 1b prospect who's ready. Even "reaching out" is irresponsible.

Gonzalez only makes sense if he can hit lefties.

So just platoon Flores with Smith and get a second baseman.

I made a point yesterday about how not knowing exactly what market the Mets prefer to play in for roster additions contributing to the pattern of once things start to go south, they often fall apart completely rather than run around. No FAs, no to trades, no to waivers, etc.

I forgot though about that very special niche FA market of “past his prime guy on big contract who gets cut for performance/ clubhouse issues and can be brought in for league minimum because someone else is paying him big dollars to NOT play for them.” We LOVE that market.

wait you aren't confident in a guy who hit .191 (.453 OPS) vs. lefties in 2017?

But he’s cheap and prevents them from having to play a younger player, two things this craven, unimaginative front office love.

If they really believe Dom needs some additional seasoning and don't want to allocate $8M+ of already limited resources to 1B, then there is some rationale to it. But it comes down to whether they will actually redeploy those funds elsewhere, and as long time fans, we know what will happen...

Is the Twitter account @StevePhillipsGM real? I see a lot of people responding to him and his takes are straight up troll-like.

If Steve Phillips still considers himself a GM that's laughable.

Not sure I wouldn't take him over this one... (that's only half in jest)
