With all the talk about free agent signings and trades not being made, I thought I'd start a thread on some of the youngsters and what role they might play next year.

Nimmo's no longer a rookie, but still a bit of a kid in an MLB sense.

He began to play somewhat regularly on July 30 (after the Jay Bruce trade - shocker). July 30-Sept 2, 15 starts, 81 PAs, he did walk 13 times, but otherwise, poor stats. .212 .350 .303 .653

Sept 3-Oct 1 he found his power stroke and put up better numbers. 110 PAs, 16 walks, 12 xbhs. .275 .382 .505 .887. I also think that September stats should be taken with a grain of salt.

His season may have been propped up by an unsustainable walk rate and a high babip but he still put up solid numbers and showed some power. His 28% K rate is also discouraging. I think the talent is there, but he's far from a sure thing.

Depending on who the mets sign and the health of several roster players Nimmo could play a fairly large role in 2018. Thoughts? Pro or Con?

He's a guy worth having on a roster. He's not a starter on a contender

Plawecki

Plaw's been handed the part time catching job (and he's out of options), that and a strong september pretty much guarantees him some real playing time in 2018, even if he's the backup, d'Arnaud isn't that durable and Plaw should see a good deal of time.

He's been consistently a weak hitter but From Sept 4 to Oct 1, 12 starts, 56 PAs, he put up solid numbers. .311 .446 .489 .935, with a high babip though, but he had 10 walks to 10 Ks, which is encouraging. I think Plaw has a shot at being an above average backup catcher and an OK hitter.

Like Nimmo, he's a big unknown with a babip enhanced September. Unlike Nimmo, Plaw doesn't strike out a ton, which I think is encouraging.

Cecchini:

He's a fun one. He had a poor 2017 in Vegas but his 2015 and 2016 were promising. His Error problem from 2016 seemed largely resolved in 2017 too.

Contrary to his reputation, what I saw of him in the field at 2nd base looked quite good. Solid range and a good glove, good athleticism. I'm not sure how much time he sees on the major league roster though. Wilmer & TJ can play 2nd and the mets might sign a 2nd baseman too.

I might like cheech more than I should but I still think there's a league-average starter in him. .700 maybe .740 OPS player with a solid glove at 2nd but I think he's a year or two away from any real playing time.

Jacob Rhame: Hard throwing relief arm we got for Granderson. I'm looking forward to see what he's capable of if given a shot.

Guillorme:

He will be a fun one to keep a track of... He will most definetly start 2018 in AAA but is a likely call up in case a major injury to an INF...

I remember when Ordinez initially came to Queens and I remember how fun it was to watch him dive after a ball that no one could get only to make a crazy high throw... His fielding comp is pretty similar and at a min will improve our pitchers ERA with solid INF defense...

If he catches a bat flip while he’s in the Majors even better :)

Smith. I think he'll win over people this year if given the chance. I think he has learned his lesson. I also think the younger coaching staff will actually enhance Dom.

Drew Smith. I think he plays a bigger role than you would think by the end of the summer.

My dark horses are Kyle Regnault, Marcos Molina in the pen and David Thompson to make a debut at some point.

I'm keeping my eye on this Goins kid. I hear he plays the game the right way.

And more importantly he plays at the right price! :)
