After '03 season #Mets knew weren't going to spend big on a Vlad Guerrero or others in free agency and brought in vet scout types Goldis/Livesey to give perception they can find talent on margins. Feels like repeating history with Minaya.

Except that Minaya convinced the Mets to actually SPEND some of their money. That is the influence I hope he carries.

In 2005.

Before Madoff.

Before Citi and SNY debt.

Its a hope you will surely be disappointed with.

Final proof that this move is excellent:

Congrats to my friend Omar Minaya, who is now special assistant to Sandy Alderson. He has always been one of the top talent evaluators of young talent and will be extremely helpful for the #Mets for near and long term. Love this addition #LGM

Its the type of hope that ownership is trying to dupe fans into feeling (once again). Maybe I'm way too pessimistic about this organization, but they have given me no reason to believe that this move isn't purely for baseball reasons or winning.

Sandy won’t be on conference call for Omar.

One constant through all the years of distinction is the Wilpons.

Its so incredibly frustrating to follow this organization.

Lets get the whole band back together! Duke. Phillips. Is McAlvine still alive?!

Right now, Carlos Delgado and Pedro Martinez are hopeful of being added to potential fits in the budget...!

Aaaaaaaaaaand we’re back:

Minaya just said it would be an honor to work besides Sandy Alderson, John Ricco and Paul DePodesta. I am sure he meant J.P. Ricciardi, not DePodesta, but 1) interesting faux pas. 2) Omar still is good at public faux pas. #Mets

Omar: *opens door* Hey, guys!
Sandy: Hi, Omar.
Omar: *pulling out a chair* What's been going on?
Sandy: Nothing.
Omar: *adjusting char* Nothing? Come on, what's the plan?
Sandy: We're going to wait it out.
Omar: Wait what out, exactly?
Sandy: The offseason.
Omar: Haha, no really, what's the plan?
Sandy: ...
Omar. ...Oh. You're serious.
Sandy: Yeah. *plays ball-in-cup for two minutes* You hungry?
Omar: *stares blankly* Sure, lunch is probably a good idea.
Sandy: ...
Omar: Okay...so, should we go?
Sandy: No, we can't go yet.
Omar: Why not?
Sandy: We're going to wait it out.

This franchise, man.

I’m really, really looking forward to the HBO miniseries about this ridiculous Wilpons-After-Doubleday era someday. Michael Douglas as Fred? Sam Rockwell as Jeff?
