Is that a real breakdown of his contract? Geez...what money's coming off the payroll this offseason that is a plus to backloading it - Harvey and Cabrera?

Jay Bruce deal with #Mets is backloaded. Breakdown, per source: $10M this season, $14.5M in 2019, $14.5M in ‘20.

I only remember 1 person saying that and yes, it was ridiculous.

Ehhh that's not THAT bad of a backload. If they only had ten million to spend this offseason welp there you go, Rip Van Sandy's gonna hibernate the rest of the offseason.

This is step 1.

Step 2 is trading Conforto and Thor to the Nationals for cash considerations.

Of course it is. This is the Wilpons MO.

$1.5M bonus in both 19 and 20, which confirms KR's $10M/$14.5M/$14.5M

Is it really? I mean for all our cynicism I didn't actually think the Mets would LITERALLY do nothing this offseason, although I certainly think this'll be the highlight. And bringing back Bruce was safe and unimaginative which is the speciality of the front office.

That said I like the player, admired how he came in last year after a bad first impression and proved he was much better than that and could handle NY.

The Wilpons, for all the hate they get, they want to win and they will, occasionally, spend something.

Safe - yes.
Unimaginative - yes.
Still, a solid move that improves us.

Any word on who gets bumped from the 40?

It was smart. The Nationals have been doing it for years, and nominal dollar amounts are worth less over time.

This was a pretty good move for the cost.

The Mets are paying $10 million for a 30 HR bat that could protect Cespedes or vice versa.

Wilpons starting a seed fund for their next Broadway show, I see.
