Any word on who gets bumped from the 40?
Hopefully ya boy Matt Reynolds?

I'll bet you 1 dollar and 23 cents that it's not Matt Reynolds. (One of the relief pitchers I think).

Hard to dislike Bruce’s 2017, or Bruce as a person / clubhouse guy, but jeeze, so much for having any kind of plan for changing the dynamics of the team whatsoever. No added speed, no improved OBP, no added fresh blood or pedigree of playoff success. Just “hey, he’s got solid numbers, and we know him!”

Could have been worse, certainly... but if it’s true they’re done with the bullpen? Yikes.

I can't really disagree with any of this.

Admittedly this is 20-20 hindsight, but I think Sandy's two major priorities, in light of the reduced payroll was to 1.) Add a veteran 7th/8th inning reliever and 2.) Add some sort of middle of the order of the bat at a price ($10 million in 2018) that they could fit in the budget.

Obviously this is setting the bar low, but maybe with Bruce in tow at their price, there's enough room to add an infielder and another reliever, with Lagares and some money as the pieces to do it.

I am beginning to think Ken Rosenthal is right.

5 team no trade per Heyman. Really don't see how/why that was necessary in this market.

Saw a couple people on Twitter put it well.

Mets would rather overpay for a hedge than pay a little more for a superior player. All their decisions are guided by risk aversion and a desire to be in it at the break.

The Mets make one moderate priced "non-fit and not-enough" move like this every single year to keep the wolves at bay.

The team is better off with Bruce than without him. This outfield is very solid right now. 5 major leaguers - signed for the next couple years. So much better than a few years ago!

Nothing that isn't more or less said here every day.

Bottom line here is that it makes the failure to get Cozart - better player at position of need, at the same money - all the more infuriating.

Mets had only two OFs in their top 30 NYFS prospects (7 and 20)
They needed a solid OF It was a good move.

More good moves still necessary
