Watch, we'll soon learn it's for $5M guaranteed.

Gonzalez hit .336/.395/.591/.986 vs. the Mets and .373/.434/.657/1.091 at Citi in his career.

Which is why it's going to be so weird to watch him in a Mets uniform, doing the opposite.

(I don't actually mind this move.)

I guess it all depends on what they end up giving him. This is the wrong year to be a first baseman in free agency.

I really don't mind this move - hopefully hearing the terms doesn't make me feel differently. Sure hope they make a nice upgrade at 2B or 3B however.

They gave him League min guaranteed... there is no incentative on either side to pay him anymore... He makes the same amount of money if signed for 500k or 5million.

Dom Smith was one of the few interesting developments to watch. Between the public statements and now this signing, it's pretty clear the Mets are going to make this as hard for him as possible.

I'm trying to wrap my head around it. I like him as a player. Does anyone know, can he still provide gold glove caliber defense? I like that he's a patient hitter with power. I'm just surprised assuming its a major league deal that a roster spot on an already crowded infield with at least 6 players that can play 1B

Smith 1B
Rivera 2B, 1B, 3B
Cabrera 2B, SS, 3B
Reyes 3B, SS, 2B
Flores 3B, 1B, 2B, SS
Gonzalez 1B
Bruce RF, 1B
Plawecki C, 1B

Any team signing him only has to pay league minimum since he already has over $20m going to him.
