This front office depresses me.

Can you elaborate? I'm not following.

"Most" of the scouts were suggested/selected/have a relationship with JP Ricciardi (who we actually never really hear from anymore).

Oh yeah and said Dunn has been heavily scouted (even in the FSL) and the scouts still have no idea what to make of him. He said the Mets are "hoping" he can bounce back like Dillon Tate (who himself is no longer a big prospect even with a solid season)

He also said the Mets take some very low upside "best case extra MLBer" types even when not making "money saving" picks and that a consensus around the league. That they "waste" more top 10 round picks than almost any other team.

Thanks.

Brutal info. Just so frustrating to follow this organization. I'm on board for the front office overhaul that I've looooong argued against.

Comment about the SEC is odd. Haven't taken more than two players from the SEC in any single draft since Sandy has been here and only once have we taken two in the first ten rounds (2016 with Alonso and Gene Cone).

If anything, Oregon seems to be the state of choice...or Wyoming.

Gimenez does not make Keith Law's top 100, Mets top prospect is David Peterson at #58 (said he had some upside despite the back end starter profile).

100% didn't see whatever it is you posted. I just saw on twitter he didn't make it.

Briefly spoke to him again today

"It goes beyond drafting poorly and this isn't something I can directly identify without inside access but the Mets player development is seemingly beyond flawed"

I mentioned the Cardinals (on paper) aren't necessarily kicking ass on draft day (on paper) and yet they find gems. He agreed 100%. That it's both loyalty to the wrong scouts and ideas and poor player development. He also said despite the "PHD" stuff the Mets analytics department is "bare bones" with less actual man power than "any team in baseball" no idea if that was hyperbole or not. Said the hit rate on 2nd, 3rd round picks league wide is actually lower than fans realize BUT that the Mets take guys that scouts/execs "know" aren't worthy of picks that high from the minute they are taken based on tools vs. even floor.

Well, there is some hyperbole in this. I have been guilty of this too. If you compare the last 7-8 drafts league-wide, the Mets haven't done measurably poorer than most teams. That isn't saying that I've agreed with a lot of the picks they've made. I haven't. But there have been some dividends from these drafts with a lot of players still marinating.

I think the organizational critique which has been constant for decades is that they have been weak at developing bats (but better at arms) and that seems no less true today that it did 30 yrs ago. I think there is some tendency to draft low ceiling/high floor players which prob accounts for these results.
