Briefly spoke to him again today

"It goes beyond drafting poorly and this isn't something I can directly identify without inside access but the Mets player development is seemingly beyond flawed"

I mentioned the Cardinals (on paper) aren't necessarily kicking ass on draft day (on paper) and yet they find gems. He agreed 100%. That it's both loyalty to the wrong scouts and ideas and poor player development.
He also said despite the "PHD" stuff the Mets analytics department is "bare bones" with less actual man power than "any team in baseball" no idea if that was hyperbole or not. Said the hit rate on 2nd, 3rd round picks league wide is actually lower than fans realize BUT that the Mets take guys that scouts/execs "know" aren't worthy of picks that high from the minute they are taken based on tools vs. even floor.

Keith Law on the Mets system, “There is a lot of talent in the lower levels of the system, but they have had a few of these guys who were pretty good out of the draft come into pro ball and then have not progressed or even have regressed after getting into the system.”

Ryan: Is there someone in the Mets system you could see making a big jump this year, like Anthony Kay, Lindsay or Nido? If not them, anyone else you have your eye on?

Keith Law: Kay, Lindsay (who was much better after he could see again), Gimenez, Mauricio, Vientos. I like their system even though it has become shallower due to trades & promotions.

No knock on Mauricio but how many IFA's make a big jump in their debut season? Seeing is believing.

Is Mauricio coming stateside or not? Vlad Guerrero Jr came stateside as a 17 year old and climbed the charts. #20 on BA's list, so it's not unprecedented. Rosario (stateside but struggled) and Gimenez (DSL but super-stats), got some prospect praise even though both missed the top 100 their first year.

I know that Vlad Jr is an outlier, but it's still possible that Mauricio gets some attention next year.

I think the mets system will look better pretty much by default next year, unless things go really wrong.

What's this business of Lindsay not "seeing"? Did he have a Wild-thing Vaughn episode of needing glasses without realizing it? Lindsay's got the upside, but he also needs to stay healthy. Nido needs to hit, which, I suppose is possible, but I'm skeptical on him. Kay I'm optimistic on, really for no reason I suppose other than just thinking somebody has to step up.

Did Klaw drop any other names?
