You could literally predict this offseason in October.

Parodying the Mets is impossible.

José Reyes had -26 last season. That's really, really, really bad

2nd-worst in MLB

Denard Span worse at -27

Both Reyes and Cabrera look like better 3B than 2B.

Reyes was not good at 3B. The only thing he brought was a good accurate throwing arm, something the Mets hadn't had at the position for almost 10 years.

Cabrera looked fine at 3B, but his range wasn't very good.

You gotta be scratching your head if you're Lucas Duda.

Sandy explained this one:

“Adrian Gonzalez -
Want to change things up from last year. Adrian can do that, can really help Dom Smith”

Totally different team now.

EDIT: Just in case there's some confusion, this was a transcribed quote from the STH event, not me being snarky. Adrian Gonzalez was brought in because they want to "change things up from last year."

Apparently 23 out of the 25 roster spots weren't a problem last year, but Dom Smith and Chasen Bradford really screwed things up. Luckily Agone and Swarzak are here to address that.

Sort of a fitting dichotomy with the Brewers trading for Yelich and signing Cain on the same night as the Mets go dumpster diving with Reyes - again. How can we possibly compete with the big-market behemoth in Milwaukee? I wish they had that season ticket holder meeting tonight instead of a couple nights ago.

If it's true that he's just going to be a utility player then I'm all for this.

Get a real 2B/3B in addition and I'll be happy.

Also, Reyes was awful at 3rd and expressed his displeasure at playing there. And then it also agitated Cabrera too. Why do we suddenly think this season will be any different?

These were also the Brewers with the lowest payroll in baseball last season. Except when they caught lightning in a bottle, they went out and improved their team even further. The Mets have instead prayed for health.

Not to defend the Mets, but even after Cain & Yelich, the Brewers still have much lower team salary than the Mets do. Yelich was a trade anyway, and not exactly cheap. The Brewers traded a healthy return in prospects.

Yes, this is how you make trades. Not by stating interest and then being shocked no one will give you their fairly priced players for free.

And also by actually drafting pieces worthy to trade in the first place (or use yourself), and not having a bottom five farm system despite only trading one big piece in the last few years.

The whole "he's coming here as a backup" line is very cute, but its already illogical.

If they use an 8 man pen, which they've said all along is the plan, then how does a ML contract for Reyes fit on the bench, unless they're demoting Nimmo when Conforto comes back?

With the 10 day DL, NL teams shouldn't be using an 8 man pen.
