I'm beginning to think it has nothing to do with the training staff or team doctors. Sometimes guys are just injury prone. deGrom's back is a major concern whether or not he's downplaying it. Once you have a bad back you have a bad back forever

deGrom

Familia
Ramos
Swarzak
Blevins

James Paxton gave up 7 runs today. Guess he'll open down on the farm as well.

So now we are comparing a guy who had a huge 2017 and has a 2.70 FIP over his last 44 starts vs. a guy who posted a 6.08 era over 13 starts.. makes sense.

No these guys aren't comparable right now but just to be fair Matz has a 3.89 FIP in 41 career starts, tho most of that good work came in 15 and 16.

He was a mess last year and that's the bottom line. So there was hope he would (and still could) be impressive in ST to show that last season was just an injury-related aberration. Suffice it to say, he needs to have a few solid Spring starts to quiet the skeptics.

But the point is comparing him to Paxton given recent history is ridiculous. One is a proven MLB high level SP coming off a great season, the other is not.

March 4th is pretty early to start making decisions.

But Matz and Gonzales need to show something in the next two weeks
Need to see some 1B time from Frazier and Bruce

I'm wondering if we might be better off with an outfield alignment of Cespedes - Lagares - Nimmo and Bruce at first (which also give us the opportunity to see how Nimmo's performance from last year holds up over an extended sample size).

I'd rather spend the first month of the season seeing if Nimmo can prove to be more than a part time player than seeing if Adrian Gonzalez can find the fountain of youth.

I'm in the get Nimmo in the lineup over Gonzalez camp.

I actually expect Gonzalez to retire at the end of spring training.

It's March 5th. Do better. There's a whole ST still to go. Guess Miguel Andujar is a MVP candidate too...Repeat, it's MARCH 5th.
