Sure looks like it. Wonder if he gets claimed.

Probably; by some team who only has 4 or 5 viable emergency SS options and need to add another.

Mets Top 6 Steamer Projections:

Conforto - 2.9 WAR
Cespedes - 2.7
Frazier - 2.1
d'Arnaud - 1.4
Cabrera - 1.2
Rosario - 1.0

ouch?

Ok, just projections but could it possibly be that TDA isn't the worst hitter on the team? And that Conforto is better than Cespedes? Learn something new every day.

Maybe the Mets will hold 1 giant press conference to announce Frazier's signing, Wright's retirement and that Matt Reynolds will remain on the 40 Man roster.

Mets once again cloak their 40 man moves in secrecy, not wanting to give anyone an edge by prematurely announcing the Matt Reynolds DFA ahead of the absolute last minute allowable to do so.

I wonder if there is an actual strategic reason they do this, or if they legitimatley don't make up their minds until the last second. Or it could be that since most of the guys are fringe major league ball players that they would rather the player find out from the Mets front office rather than the media (sort of like the cops not releasing a murder victims name until they notify the family).

If there is a strategic reason, would love to hear what they think the payoff is.

Maybe I'm overlooking something, but I can't recall an outcome that ever surprises. The guys that they ultimately cut that are worth a dang have gotten claimed; the others don't; and the times they decide to effect a trade instead of a straight waiver ends in them just getting cash.

Like, I could see something where last year they called up the O's, who were a good team (low waiver priority) that needed pitching depth, and saying they were going to DFA a starter who wouldn't get to them in waivers so they should make an offer (trying to get something out of them in the interim)...but they just took cash anyway for Ynoa. You get cash for a waiver claim. So I don't see the big strategic payoff.

Though I also wonder why people care to know about that kind of stuff so quickly.

To be honest, there are probably like 20 people in the entire world that do - its just that a couple of them post here and let you know they care every single time a 40 man roster move is in question.
