Maybe they should sign some Jason Bay's and Luis Castillo's to get the payroll up another $25 million.

Saddest thing to me if I am reading this correctly is that the Yankee payroll is only 9.5 million more than the Mets. I guess that's what excellent trades and scouting can do for a team

In fairness, they also dealt their players in a year when returns were incredibly good for selling teams. The Mets did their selling in a buyers' market.

As for drafting/scouting, that could very well be a whole other issue.

Plus the Yankees had better talent to sell. But that's the Mets fault. They could have traded for Chapman and signed Miller too if they had any foresight whatsoever.
