Never been a huge fan of Matz as a pitcher, but his outings for far this spring don't alarm me. Some borderline bases on balls and a few bloop hits have made his stats look bad, but I think his stuff has looked pretty good.

The five runs didn't concern me. He actually had pretty good stuff and made some pretty good pitches. What is concerning is how he continues to be up in the strike zone. Yesterday, most of his high pitches were balls and there were MANY of them.

My amateur analysis of Matz's mechanical problems lies in ONE basic flaw. He is NOT bending his knees enough on delivering his fast balls. Case in point, Matz threw an excellent change-up yesterday, where his mechanics were perfect, including the knee bending. On the FB's, he looks like a statue.

I am worried about Matz because I truly believe he can still be a very good pitcher but needs not only to make some minor mechanical adjustments but also needs to have some confidence. Unfortunetly, Matz may have to do both in AAA for a couple of months because time is running out in ST.

How bout Corey Taylor coming in and picking off the last out? You just can't make these things up. So frustrating....

Readjusting to the nerve replacement. I'm not worried...he will be fine.
