Seems like all the infield depth is playing pretty well this Spring. LG, Evans, Cecchini...

Man, do I miss Matt Reynolds.

I bet you do, I think if I did a search for "MarkJohnson>You Reynolds" I'd get pages of results.

Is Lugo factoring into the bullpen mix? I have to think he is - would be nice to have a guy that can throw 2-3 innings in relief. Keith would love it - the Long man! haven't had one of those since Pat Mahomes...or what it Darren Oliver?

Isn't he already a lock for the pen?

I'm figuring it'll look like this:

deGrom
Noah
Vargas
Harvey
Wheeler

Familia
Blevins
Swarzak (if he's ready)
AJR
Sewald
Lugo
Robles

AAA

Matz
Gsell
Rhame
Callahan
Bashlor

Monty traded to one the O's, Royals, Tigers, ChiSox or Twins

Good AAA depth. Rhame seems to have pitched pretty well so far. I admit I've seen none of the relievers pitch yet so I am not sure if the results directly correlate to the stuff.

Sure would be nice to move on from Robles.

Rhame has probably had the best showing stuff wise as far as improvement is concerned. He's been regularly upper 90's with a good swing and miss change/split.

Callahan looks the same as last year. He's OK. He's going to be another Erik Goeddel - he'll be up and down a bunch and eventually you replace him when you have to pay him.

Robles obviously looks down. Sewald's FB has been down this spring a bit but the results are good.

Those guys are probably competing for 2 spots based on what they do with the starters who don't make the rotation. And I still am pretty certain they take 2 lefties, despite the lip service about not just taking a lefty for the sake of it (given they have often taken lefties for the true sake of taking a lefty - who remembers: John Lannan, Opening Day Reliever?)

Well, you certainly would prefer to take another real LHer over Robles. It's up to them to make that happen.

As to Evans possible getting that last roster spot, it would require opening another 40 spot, but that could happen organically if Monty doesn't make the initial roster.

Good about Rhame. Callahan's numbers are not very impressive. Seems like runners on every inning. Wasn't very impressed with him last season.

As for the second LH - keep in mind, the Mets picked up Blevins on March 30th - from a a division rival...for MDD. So I'd assume a trade will happen later on.

Where is Edgin these days? Mets seem very receptive to reunions with guys they've just let go of.

If they don't go with an 8th RPer to open up, who would get the last bench spot (until Scooter returns)?

I know there is a school of thought that says they would be so afraid to lose Monty that he will get the spot, but otherwise..? Seems like a tiny bit of daylight for Evans. So does it come down to Monty or Evans?

Put Wheeler and Matz in the bullpen and sign Arieta. There, I just made us a playoff team.

Seems like more of the same from Robles. At this point, I think he has to be on his way out. I was an advocate to have one of the power arms in the minors start with the team. Gerson is the one I'm really excited about but I wouldn't mind Rhame and or Bashlor breaking up to NY to start especially if they will go with 8 relievers.

Would have to be an injury, no? Or are you thinking Rosario starts on DL?

Otherwise there's really no position player competition. Nimmo/Lagares (whoever doesn't start), Flores, Reyes and Plaw/TdA (whoever doesn't start) is the bench.
