We need to trade for a catcher as fast as possible. Nido and Lobaton is not going to cut it, not even this early.

I'm not going to deny that picking up Realmuto would be a big addition, but do the Mets really need that? Or would it be smarter for them to hold on to chips (especially Nimmo) and bring in veterans that can get the job done?

for example..?

Miguel Montero, Carlos Ruiz, Geovany Soto, Brayan Peña, etc.

I would look at Mesoraco tho the $ is prob going to get in the way... but it will also make him easy to get.

Isn’t he someone else who can’t ever stay on the field?

There's nothing wrong with calling about Realmuto, but you certainly don't let them hold you up.

TDA is likely done as a Met and Plaw is a 27 year old unproven prospect.

I think now is a good time to acquire a proven piece at catcher who can be part of the core moving forward. Realmuto seems like the perfect target.

Amusingly, he'd also upgrade team speed as a catcher.

If there were an easy, pain-free solution, they would get it done right away. Each guy they look at is going to have some warts. Mesoraco was supposedly healthy in ST. He's now backing up Barnhart. And he's in the final year of a 4 yr deal I believe. Just 29.

So what? Why panic and give up too much before the markets begin to establish themselves?

Besides:

I have been told the fracture is minor and the expectation is that Plawecki could be back in as little as 2-3 weeks.

According to Gelbs, KP could be back in 3 weeks.

So they'll prob roll with Nido and Lobaton and save their chips.

Mesoroco is a guy that makes sense to me.

Salvador Perez is another potential idea, but he's on the DL for at least a few more weeks.
