I think Ryan Hanigan is available. They'll prob sign a veteran like that if he's willing to go to AAA. Derek Norris might be another option.

The Mets have spoken to the Marlins about J.T. Realmuto. It would take a haul to land him, plus Realmuto has not played yet this season because of a back contusion. That said, the Marlins are rebuilding so maybe there is common ground that can be found.

That sounds like a leftover rumor seasoned with a healthy dose of speculation.

I actually don't think the Mets would do something to block KP assuming he's good to go in 3 weeks. I think they are curious to see how he does with the opportunity to play 5 days a week. And that dovetails with the conservative nature of the FO not wanting to overreact and use up any bullets.

However, a guy like Mesoraco could be a better fit in a part time role. But again, the money he's owed will likely make that too big a hurdle. I don't see the Reds eating $10M on his deal. So maybe this is something they reconsider mid-season when the $ will have less of an impact. And so I guess they'll just roll with KP/Nido/Lobaton for the next 2 months and see where they're at.

The question is: Will Nido or Lobaton get more PT?

Bottom line on Plawecki is that I expect to see a lot of Jose Lobaton. #mets

No need to empty the chips for a panic move...Lucroy was obviously the guy if they knew this would happen. Nido and Lobaton can hold down the ship for a few weeks.

Maybe Harvey will be better with a better defensive catcher

TDA is likely done as a Met and Plaw is a 27 year old unproven prospect.

I think now is a good time to acquire a proven piece at catcher who can be part of the core moving forward. Realmuto seems like the perfect target.

Amusingly, he'd also upgrade team speed as a catcher.

TDA still has an option (with an opt out, but an option all the same), and if he needs surgery he's not a hard guy to carry. Plus he'll only cost like 3.5 to maybe 4 next year. I think the mets will keep him.

So, how long is Plaw out? Is it really just a few weeks as one of the posts implied?

I want to say this is bad luck, but at the same time, it's a long season and things are going well overall. They can bounce back from this.

The Mets think he will only need a few weeks. I think they can survive that and see what they have when he comes back.
